After 18 years of dealing with "RA" the rheumy says I don't have RA but do
have OA & fibro. HE says that fatigue is NOT a symptom of RA and implies
the I MUST have swelling of the joints and joint deformity to have RA.
Since when is fatigue not a symptom of RA????? I understand that I could
have more than one form of arthritis, but I really, really don't understand
how he can say I don't have something that I know darn good and well the I
HAVE dealt with in the past. HE wasn't around when my knees were swollen to
the size of large cantalopes! I have had swelling in several pairs of
joints as well as significant joint pain!
Needless to say, I am feeling rather confused and frustrated!!!!

Hi Mary,,,, A good way to check how your RD really feels about what you
have is,,,,,,,, Does he or she have you taking a DMARD?

Don't be confused, Mary Margaret, just accept the fact that in
some cases idiots get medical degrees. Sad but true.

Have you been seeing this RD for long? Been happy with him otherwise? If
so, maybe he was having a really bad day and you should give him another
chance. If not, will your insurance let you change RDs? 'Cause if you don't
have a positive history with this doc, I say dump anyone who says this and
pronto!

It's hard to believe that some people get medical degrees! I once went
to an ear doctor who said I didn't have RA (nobody asked him!!!) and his
90 something year old mother could get up and down out of a chair better
than I could and I needed to exercise. I hated the fact that he got paid
for this appointment.
Don't let the idiot get you down. I probably would keep another appt.
with him and discuss his diagnosis in depth and then if not satisfied,
find another doctor.

Fatigue NOT a factor of RA? That doesn't make any sense at all to me
either. Pain and fatigue accompany each other, no matter what the
diagnosis. Nanny

Thanks to all who responded. I left for a week in FL right after I wrote
this.
1. This current RD took me off MTX.
2. I just started with this guy in October on the advice of my PCP. He
didn't want to give me more MTX w/o my seeing an RD.
3. I was DX'd at the Cleveland Clinic in the fall of 1990.
4. This was my 3rd visit with the man.
5. I started the pred taper on Thursday, felt fantastic by Saturday, went
to FL on Monday. I felt rather good the rest of the week. Now I'm back home
waiting for the pred effects to wear off.
Must get back to reality and deal with a week's worth of laundry!!!
