OTP: I'm MOVING :)))

Carole - 09 Mar 2008 06:07 GMT Well, tomorrow I start my big move :) My friends are coming over to help with some of the boxes and clothes and stuff. Then the movers come at 11am on Monday. I can't wait for Monday night when I can sleep without wearing ear plugs!! They are the most uncomfortable things and they make my ears hurt. But it was the only way I could get some sleep in this apartment with the dingbat upstairs and the noise she made. To tell you how bad it is, the office only sent one woman to look at my apartment and she's deaf, so what does that tell you?
I had a bunch of old CDs and collector's stuff from a guy whose music I used to like in the 80's and 90's, so I threw it all up on eBay and made over $400 :-)) One guy paid $48 just for a magazine! With the money I ordered a dresser for my bedroom. It will be so nice to have a dresser to put my smaller size clothes in :)) And when I hit goal, I'm going to get sexy undies (well, at least a couple of pair :))) And I'll have a nice place to put them. The dresser should be here in a week or two, so I'm happy about that.
Wish me luck and say a prayer that I get all this done. I'm running out of energy here, so I'm glad my friends are coming tomorrow :))

Donna G. - 09 Mar 2008 06:25 GMT Happy moving, Carole! Just be careful not to overdo it too much and cause yourself any set back or anything!!!
May you be very happy in your new place!

Thanks, Donna! I'm being careful not to over do. They give us three days to move from one apartment to another, so I should be OK.
I know I'll be happy as it's SO quiet :))))))))

Squirrely - 09 Mar 2008 06:39 GMT good luck and prayers coming that way.

d'huit - 09 Mar 2008 07:46 GMT CONGRATULATIONS!!!! easy does it, sweetie, conserve your energy. tomorrow, remember to allow . . . allow your friends to do the lifting, carrying and moving stuff around. you do just the putting away of the little stuff and please don't try to put it all away in one day or in even one week. it'll get done and doesn't have to all be done at once. sending you allowing vibes . . "allow . . ." "allow. . ." "allow . . ."<smile>
happy for your happiness, kate (i know. you didn't need me to tell you what you already knew. but i think i did it cuz i'm concerned for you. made me feel better--geesh, how selfish is that?!)

Donna G. - 09 Mar 2008 14:05 GMT LOL.........Kate, I don't think you were being selfish at all. We care about our friends and never want them to over do it or do anything that might jeopardize their well being and happiness! Sometimes we need those gentle reminders to not do something or to do something, even though we already know that. Sometimes those reminders can be a blessing and if nothing else, they at least let the loved one know we care and are thinking of them! Just my opinion of course! lol

We care > about our friends and never want them to over do it or do anything that > might jeopardize their well being and happiness! LOL - and I think we're always reminding others because we know how often we overdo it ourselves, even though we know better! (says the woman who felt so (relatively) good from medrol Friday that she slung around too many bags of potatoes at the food pantry and right hand/wrist/arm have been paying for it ever since.)

Navy - 09 Mar 2008 15:11 GMT Here's another little hint. I did a lot of moving when my husband was in the military. One thing we did was just put the dishes etc in the cupboards and not worry about organizing at all. I found that they would "drift" to the optimum location and then I organized within those locations. Have fun and, like kate said, take it slow and easy. As long as the right boxes get in the right rooms, take your time unpacking and enjoy your peace and quiet!
Love from us all. We are so proud of you and what you have accomplished. God bless.

I found that they would "drift" to > the optimum location and then I organized within those locations. hmmmmmm, I'll have to remember that for the next move. Fortunately, even though he doesn't seem that way in general, Mike has a really good innate sense for how spaces should flow so working together we get things arranged fairly fast. The issues arrive when there are several good places for a particular item in the kitchen (as least to his way of thinking) so he puts it away in different places at different times. The current kitchen doesn't have much storage space though, so it hasn't happened much here. In Gainesville, I knew which 3 or 4 places to look for something! lol

Works well in the refrigerator and freezer as his options are limited.
Everything else, he constantly moves to a better place until he (and I) can no longer find it.

And then they took me out to eat :) So now I just have to pack the rest of the stuff and the movers will be here tomorrow at 11am
:)))) I just hope I can find everything, LOL :)))

I'm taking a little break here. Then I have to go back to packing. I can't take a break on Tuesday as I have to come back here and clean. If we don't clean they charge us $25 an hour for a cleaning lady to come in. One of my friends said he would pay for the cleaning, so I'll see how I'm feeling, but I just may take him up on it. I bought a steam cleaner thingee for Dundee's cage and I can also do windows with it (it has an attachment), but they insist that all the window tracks are immaculate, and i don't know if I have that much energy left. We'll see :)

Kelly - 10 Mar 2008 04:29 GMT The main thing is to have sheets and pillows immediately to put on the bed, toilet paper, soap and towel; a coffee cup is nice - will come in handy for painkillers if nothing else and most of the rest can wait. that offer of cleaning might come in handy and if you do part of it - the easy part the rest might not cost much. Just take it easy.

She only charges $15 an hour so I hired her to come on Tuesday. She said it would take about 3-4 hours, so that's fine. I'm too tired.
I went to the new apartment tonight so I could iron the new dust ruffle. That way I can put it on the bed when the movers put the bed together. When they go to get the mattress, I'll pop it on :) I got a pretty green set which is nice and springy :)) And the sheets and pillows are all marked so I can find them as soon as I get there. I definitely am going to take a nap! I haven't had a nap in ages because of the noise the woman upstairs makes all day.
Oh, and I'll definitely know which box the coffee is in! I'll need it!!
:)))) Carole :)

Well, my friends said they'd pay for the cleaning lady, so I took them up on their offer. One of the things I've learned from getting sick is to take help when offered :)) I'm an Aries and can be very independent at times, so it was a lesson well learned :-)
The guys had one hell of a time getting my couch in here. There is a hallway with a corner and my couch is big. They finally had to stand it on end, but then it was too tall, so they had to remove the hall light fixture to get it in here! So I'm staying here till I croak, LOL :))

i grew up living in apartments until i was 16. back in the '50s, when i was a little girl, we lived on the second floor in a 3 story victorian, in the san francisco mission district (the only victorian left standing, in the mission district, after the 1906 quake.). there was an actor's workshop in a barn nextdoor (yep, there really was a real and large barn on folsom street, in san francisco, between 25th and 26th streets. it was set back from the street on the lot.). i totally loved visiting the actor's workshop when i was a kid. i was all eyes, quiet, so the workshop people allowed me to be there when they were rehearsing.
anyway, we had a professional flamenco (sp?) dancers' troupe living above us in the victorian, for about 3 to 6 months; and then, following that troupe, we had a samoan dancers' troupe above us for a short time. luckily, both troupes worked in clubs late at night. but you can imagine how our ancient lath and plaster ceilings responded to those concussive rhythms when those troupes practiced at home. i know my father lived on aspirins during that time.
so, i can imagine what carole's neighbor was up to and what carole put up with.
kate
Carole - 11 Mar 2008 17:55 GMT > so, i can imagine what carole's neighbor was up to and what carole put up > with. Yup, you can relate, Kate :) And this woman constantly had her nieces and nephews over. And it was like living under the Worldwide Wrestling Federation. My electric bill doubled after she moved in as I used to put the washing machine and the dishwasher on at the same time to drown out the racket she was making up there!

I haven't had a nap in ages because of the noise [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > > Joan My office was on the first floor of what was otherwise an apartment building for many years. Don't know which was more interesting/annoying. One year their was a little kid up there that liked to play in the bath tub. Sliding back and forth with just a bit of water. Trust me, that isn't what it sounded like. Then their was the guy with the weights and a tendency to put them down really hard. Or the tenant that liked to listen to their stereo while they were outside washing their car. Stereo was in their bedroom quite a way from their front door.
Or worst if I had a client in the office, was the couple that worked shifts and it seems only saw each other for a short period of time in the middle of the afternoon, and took full advantage of it.
All were better than the mother next door in one of our apartments that constantly screamed at her young son. Yes he was a son of a b*t*h but that was hardly his fault.
Jo Jo
Donna G. - 11 Mar 2008 02:38 GMT Or, if you're like me, I have one neighbor who starts his stereo up at about 6:30 am and keeps it blaring away until about noon, then the neighbor below me starts his stereo up around 10:00 a.m. and usually has it going most of the day, plus he is hard of hearing so I can almost sing along his stereo is turned up so loud. Then the neighbor on the other side of me cranks her stereo up so she can hear it in the shower and when she is cleaning/running the vacume, so I have to listen to hers for about 4-5 hours per day! Some days when I really am not feeling so well, I want to go scream at all of them to turn their stereo's off! Uggggh. Many people in apartments forget that they aren't the only ones living there and that they disturb a whole lot of people!!!

The woman upstairs made so much noise that I had to watch my TV or listen to my stereo with headphones. If I turned it up loud enough to block out the noise she was making, it hurt my ears. And also would have disturbed those on either side of me. It was so nice to watch TV last night without headphones :))) AND especially nice to sleep without those horrid earplugs!!!!!!
