For those on humira, how quickly did it start working?
I think with both enbrel and remicade I felt better right away. Humira
does not seem to be doing that though. Maybe my dose needs to be
adjusted, or maybe the anti-tnf drugs just aren't doing it for me
anymore.I still have not gotten out of this flare. Without prednisone,
I am not doing well at all, but I need high dose pred. The low dose
doesn't seem to help either. I do not want to continue high dose pred.

Hi Rose,,,,  the old what I want and what can be,,,,,  Please have this same
discussion with your RD.   See if what you want or want not to is
constructive with your condition and only your RD can work this out for you.
We can say this or that with what has happened with us butttt its what your
RD thinks and says that is important to    only    you.

I was going to email you this morning and ask how you are doing Rose!
darn - this was suppose to do the trick.  I can tell you it took longer
than this for my enbrel to work though.  Can't find reference but it did
take at least a couple of months I believe.  Can the Humira dose be
adjusted?  I know the enbrel couldn't.

Spring break is coming - are you one of the schools getting the full 2
weeks??  I gather no news on the house??

Thinking of you and sending gentle hugs.

Kelly

Hi Kelly,
We do get two weeks for spring break.

I am beginning to think I will never sell this house. It is ideal for
a retired couple I think the problem is that it is just two bedrooms.
At this moment there is nothing on the market I want to buy. There is
a subdivision being built that would be perfect, but they only have
three units completed.

Humira can be adjusted. I am on a two week schedule, but I think you
can also be on  a one week schedule. I will have to see what Dr. Offer
says. Everything is ready for me to try rituxan if this does not work.
My next appointment is April 18th, and I think I will know by then if
this is going to work or not. The thing is with rituxan, Dr. Offer
insists that it be done in Penticton.

Thanks for the hugs. Back at ya!

I have no info about Humira, Rose, I just want to mention again at how
amazing you are.  To work full-time, further your own education and have a
life beyond those things while fighting such virulent RA is incredible.  I
don't know how you do it, but i wish we could clone some of your spirit to
spread throughout the world.

Thank-you, Nann. That is one of the nicest things anyone has said to
me.

I started seeing improvement after the first dose, but it took 2 doses to
really kick in.  That was on the standard every-two-weeks dose.

When we had to reduce my Arava I saw a decline fairly quickly.  That's when
I switched to the weekly dose.  Again, it took 2 doses to really kick in.
Every time I  have to stop it because of an infection it takes two weeks to
really feel good again.

How many doses have you had?

I have only had two doses. I am almost embarassed to say that, as I am
being quite impatient. My next appointment is in a month, and I will
continue to try until then at the two week dose. Hopefully if it is
going to work, it will start by then.

Mine started working right away, but I was on the MTX & Humira
protocol.  Apparently, they help each other get the job done.  Once I
had been on that combo for a few months, they got rid of the MTX & all
was fabulous.

I saw my RD yesterday & he said I was doing great & doesn't want to
see me back for 5 months.  That's the longest time between
appointments yet!

I am on both as well. I take 1 cc of mtx, which is equivalent to 25
mgs.

I was DX'd with AS in 1976 and have never in 32 years received MTX.
Not when taking an NSAID alone, not when on Remicade, and not when
on Enbrel.

  Psoriatic Arthritis

   What is it?

Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory joint disease associated with
psoriasis, a chronic skin disease. It is estimated that between 5 and
23% of people with psoriasis will develop psoriatic arthritis.
The joint disease can present itself in a variety of ways and its
symptoms can be similar to those of various other forms of arthritis.
On average, joint disease appears about 10 years after the first signs
of psoriasis.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease that results in itchy patches
of skin that have a red base with a silvery scale on top. (editted)

   Treatment options

Medicines that treat the whole body include:

   * NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), including the COX-2

   * Steroids injected directly into swollen joints are effective,

   * Methotrexate is an effective disease-modifying antirheumatic drug
(DMARD) for people with arthritis in one or several joints. It
helps both skin and joint disease.

     etc., etc., etc., etc.

... You can't just let nature run wild.
