I had been reading this group a few months back, and got some rally good
comments and
advice.
I had developed a severe pain in my left hip,
and what with an arthritic left knee(right one was replaced in '04)had
3rd heart attack
7/07 had a stent put in, but they found an 85%
blockage at the catheter 12/07, and the increased cardio meds, went back
to using the cane, and saw my primary care doctor=hip xray
showed spots, bone scan showed arthritis, then
the MRI showed bad arthritis, severe sinnotis,
bad disk in spine, saw Neurologist 3/4/07, he
said I am disabled, unable to work, will try
a pharomlogical approach, another MRI and
possible back surgurgy.  Applied for disbility
payments thru my corporation, and have been
home all week.
Any advice on back surgury sucees? Doctor
says will get neck pains and walking capability
will be reduced. Sent me  hyrocodene7.5/
acetaminophen750mg tab. Took one this
morning, did not get the vomitting reaction that
oxycodene gave me, but not sure if this will help.  Also have irritible
bowl syndrome
(diarhea) was told this may be causedby the spinal problem too.
Thankfully I am being treated by the VA,
though not a service related injury(nice not
getting big doctor bills)so I have to do what
they say.

Welcome to ASA Patrick.   You have explained you situation well and with
most of the facts.   IMO,,,, you need to keep doing what you are doing and
get enough facts to make up you mind to have corrective measure done to your
back.   Hhhhm,,, if your heart allows this.   See what you can do to improve
your hearts condition and THEN take steps to improve your back.
You have come to the right newsgroup to find people that deal with your kind
of problems because we just want to help you get through your day with a
good outlook for tomorrow.\

Patrick, my husband was treated by the VA also - not service related.  We
lived in Florida and we had to visit my sister-in-law in  Charleston, SC to
get on the rolls.  We were turned down in Florida but no problem at all in
SC.
Then we transferred to Florida and it worked out okay.  However the doctor
we had in Florida, and who was good, got fed up with all the paperwork and
rigamarole he had to go through and resigned.  The next one we got wasn't
very good but we stuck with him because Grayson was getting his medicine
free and they started him on Aricept for Alzheimers.
Shortly after we moved to Alabama to be near our son and his family, he
had surgery on his brain and he started bleeding.  There were so many
tangles and plaques that it took the surgeon 5 hours to stop the bleeding.
After that he had to go to the nursing home and lived for 8 months.

I m so grateful for the help and not getting bills
for my treatment, and also I am very humble whenever I go to the VA
hospital(East Orange,
NewJersey) because I see so many that are worse off or further along
than I am.
Also I lucked out this time, because I work(ed)
for a corporation, and they have benefits.
The receptionist/secretary Vicki, thinks I should
be okay money wise, they will be paying me
8 weeks pay now, and 6 months soon-just
have to get through the paperwork.
I've read entries here, that others have waited
a very long time..
Will come back here soonest-can contact me
directly, if you want.
I seem only to get emails from my 2 brothers, and spam for erectile
dysfunction.
Thank you
Patrick

Patrick, it looks as if you will come out okay financially.  That's good
news.  As you said, so many have to wait so long and then get turned down
two or three times on disability.  Get that paperwork in so you won't have
to wait!

Not sure where your disk is but I  just had a spinal fusion in Dec. at
the L3-4 level.  Had unbearable back pain not even able to walk,
horrible hip pain.  Had the hip injected had the spinal surgery and I
can tell you for certain, I have no back pain.  NONE.  When it rains I
have a soreness but nothing I can't deal with.  I had an excellent
neurosurgeon and he literally saved my life because it was so bad I
didn't want to live.  But now I am pain free with the help of a
wonderful boyfriend that got me through all of it.  :)
