My titanium hip is causing me delays in the security checks at airports. It
sets off the alarm during the 'walk through' and there's nothing I can do to
prevent the 'pat search' and 'complete wand scan' that is required after
that. I'm 63 years old with salt and pepper hair and a small white beard -
certainly, that's not what they are looking for. I'm thinking of wearing my
wedding ring and keeping my keys in my pocket, since it won't matter - I get
singled out anyway!

but the TSA has to prove to the world that they don't profile people...so
there you get stuck in the extra line. I have the same problem...except I'm
female, short and fat with metal joints (lol)

Same here, even in Australia. C'est la vie.

i don't know where you live. however, i have a friend in california who has
a total shoulder and a knee replacement. she travels a lot, out of the
country. i can't remember what it is called, but she told me she has a
medical card that she shows whenever she flies that lets them know she has
these metal protheses inside her body and it speeds up the process a lot.
it sounded to me like it is a picture id that is scanable. the process of
getting one of these cards sounded a little tedious to me, but it might be
worth it for you to investigate getting this card, if you travel a lot. i'd
suggest either asking your doctor/surgeon about it or calling your airport
or the FAA or the passport bureau about it. sorry, i don't know any more
details than that. hope that helps.

My hips have never sounded an alarm at an airport or courthouse.
But they sure raise hell at a couple of state prisons I visit
6 or 7 times a year. Out comes a medical card from the surgeon
and a letter from the rheumy, plus the wand for a body scan. <g>

When I fly, which isn't very often, I always have to be stopped and checked
and scanned because of the metal in my knee replacement joint. Nanny
