Is anyone knowledgeable about the Open Toe Walker style of the Arizona
Brace?  (http://www.arizonaafo.com/opentoewalker.html)
My feet have many of the deformities consistent with 30 years of
rheumatoid arthritis and an MRI shows a slight tear of the posterior
tibial tendon.  I've spoken to a few podiatrists who say that the
standard Arizona brace is the one to use for PTTD (posterior tibial
tendon dysfunction). But they aren't really familiar with the Open Toe
Walker.
I'm concerned that the standard brace will help the PTTD but I will
have challenges wearing it because of my other foot deformities and
the complications of getting a custom shoe to accommodate all my
problems plus the brace.
The Open Toe Walker looks like it would be wonderful for all my other
problems, but it isn't clear if it helps with my PTTD.  I called the
company and the person I spoke to said that it can help.  But on their
webpage they say it works for ankle arthritis and they don't mention
PTTD.
I have an appointment in a few weeks with an orthopedic surgeon that
is supposed to be the doctor in the Philadelphia area who is the
expert on ankles.  I hope that he has some familiarity with both
styles.  But I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with
the Open Toe Walker.

Ellen, I wear the standard, so I can't help you with the open toe. I
have a very deformed foot, though, and they make a mold of your foot
so that the brace fits it perfectly. I've had mine about two years,
and just the last couple of weeks, have had a problem with it. a bone
(or something) has shifted in my foot and is causing the brace to rub
against part of my foot. i don't want the skin to break down there, so
I'm laying off the brace until I can get in to have it adjusted. Other
than that, it's been great. I can ONLY wear it with certain tennis
shoes with their insole removed. that's frustrating, but better than
not being able to walk.

Good luck, and sorry I can't be more help.
