Donna G. - 06 Mar 2008 22:07 GMT Well, here we go again!
We just had 6 inches of snow yesterday and are expecting another 8-10 inches for tomorrow. Whew, sure has been one heck of a snowy winter this year.
We are actually just 8 inches shy of having the snowiest winter ever on record! If we get at least 8 of the inches they are predicting for tomorrow, we will definitely beat the old record.
So, how are the rest of you all fairing in this lovely snowy winter???
What, are those groans I just heard coming from everyone??? LOL

sweetpickleNO@SPAMknology.net - 06 Mar 2008 23:54 GMT I've really missed Florida weather and friends since coming to Montgomery. But I did enjoy all the years there. We lived in Miami, Clearwater/Dunedin, Bartow, Sarasota, Tampa and Lake County. Loved it! Gwen

I am never bored with sun and heat. We have had a record breaking rain year and lots of cold in the santa cruz mountains. Of course our summer was record breaking heat.

Carole - 07 Mar 2008 15:56 GMT In the Pacific Northwest, we get rain. But as my friend says "You don't have to shovel rain!" :-))))
I think all told we had maybe an inch of snow this year and that was in two different "storms". I LOVE living in Washington :))

But as my friend says "You don't > have to shovel rain!" :-)))) [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > > Carole It all depends on te temperature when it's raining. I'd much rather have 30F with snow than have 40F with raining. The latter feels so much colder for some reason. And we've had a couple rounds of freezing rain recently - rain that freezes on contact with the ground. Breaking up the solid sheets of ice that covered everything was much more of a pain than snow is!

I'm going to make the biggest snowball you've ever seen and send it your way ;-) I'll have Gene hurl it with his long arms. Nanny

Adelle - 07 Mar 2008 12:32 GMT > Well, here we go again! > [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > > What, are those groans I just heard coming from everyone??? LOL Donna, I'd trade snow any day for the gully washer we're about to get. Spent Wednesday hauling wet towels for just an inch of rain. We're expecting 3 +/- starting tonight and going to tomorrow night.
Adelle
sweetpickleNO@SPAMknology.net - 07 Mar 2008 19:58 GMT Oh Adelle. I know you are definitely not looking forward to the rain. So sorry for you. Gwen
>> Well, here we go again! >> [quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > > Adelle Donna G. - 07 Mar 2008 23:53 GMT Oh, Adelle, I'm sorry. I had forgotten about your water situation in the basement! Yikes, that's going to be a real challenge even if this storm dumps a bunch of snow, as eventually the snow has to melt. Would an extra sump pump or something help any?

We already had the second sump pump installed. Unfortunately, its not helping.
We did find out that our basement slab is 4 inches lower under the stairs than the rest of the house. One leak is the water which is collecting there. We bought a small submersible pump and drain it every couple hours during a storm. That has fixed the biggest issue. But we still have water coming in on either side of the bulkhead, too. Those require the towel and bucket treatment (sopping towels tossed into bucket and spun in the washer), sometimes as often as every ten minutes. We just rotate through our stock of beach towels.
So far tonight, so good. But we know what we are doing tomorrow. All day. And possibly night, too. <sigh>

Donna G. - 07 Mar 2008 23:54 GMT OK, Nanny, I say you make the biggest snowball you can, I'll bring a big ole ramp and we'll send that snow that we all get rolling its way towards SJ and the rest of em! lol

If it will make you feel any better, everyone I know around here has puffy eyes and runny noses. Almost all the orchard trees are in bloom and there has been enough breeze to keep the pollen moving.
One of the favorite pass times with the local kids is playing in the snow. Forty five minutes away you can go to fill a pickup truck bed with snow and drive it down for the kids to play in.
They play with the snow until they are cold and wet and filthy dirty. Then come in and get cleaned up and go back out to play basketball in the street in shorts and t-shirts.
So if you have a nice big snow ball send it our way.
Jo
nanny - 08 Mar 2008 01:16 GMT Seriously? You are serious, aren't you, Jo? Who, I repeat who, would ever choose snow rather than warm breezes?! Guess we'll have to make more than one humungous snowball ;-) Nanny

We have a couple of neighbors who have pickups and have to drive back and forth to the snow fairly often anyway.
I always loved to watch the snow fall. Preferable from indoors with a blazing fire and a warm drink on hand.
We used to drive the kids up to play in the snow but last time Charlie wrecked our van on the ice.
Too bad you couldn't wait and send us the snow about August 1st when its topped 100F every day for a week.
(I'm not all that far from Squirley. We usually share weather patterns.)

Well, then, we can throw the large snowballs in the same direction! When I was younger, I loved to go sledding and ice-skate. No more! Although, I might be able to handle the snow, if I was sitting near a "blazing fire and a warm drink" ;-) I just watched the weather news, and our area is in a "blizzard watch", so I don't know what to expect when I look out the window tomorrow. If I can't see out because of the snow, then I'm in big trouble, since our bedroom is on the 2nd floor! I do understand how kids and adults who don't see snow often would like to play in it as you describe. But, I've seen enough to last me a lifetime. Nanny

The ramp idea sounds even better. Perhaps the giant snowball will reach SJ and the rest of them before it melts ;-) Nanny

What, just because some of us are about ready to get in our swim trunks, you are going to start throwing snow balls at us. Well I never. LOL ;-)
I can send you the blossoms to our flowering pear tree that I am so allergic too would that help. ;-)

Gary Z - 07 Mar 2008 14:35 GMT we were fortunate this time as your storm slid south and east of us. We did get a dusting though. the last big one they predicted didn't happen and we got a lot of rain instead. Ground is frozen so it caused a bunch of flooding again. we have still had a record winter and every around here I talk with is totally fed up with the weather this year. I got desperate enough to do a web search to find out how close the robins are to us. they are my sure sign that things are about done winter-wise. I did find a sight and found out closest reported so far is about 15 miles south. Made me feel more optimistic than I have felt in quite some time. garyz
> Well, here we go again! > [quoted text clipped - 24 lines] > > 2.) J.K.M.A. ANN M - 07 Mar 2008 14:55 GMT My weather is just about the same as Adelle's. They are forecasting 3 to 5 inches of rain starting tonight. Had hurricane force winds day before yesterday, but very little snow this year. I think only about 16" so far. The first of the robins are back and one was singing his "summer song" two mornings this week outside my bedroom window. I think he is lonely!!! Ann
nanny - 07 Mar 2008 17:16 GMT Robins? Are there such things? ;-) I can't wait until I see my first one. Another winter storm headed our way tonight and Saturday. Nanny

That's ok though, I don't want to shovel for a few days, after organizing a major influx of supplies for the food pantry today. But next week looks like lots of thawing and overnight freezing. sigh............. I'm keep drifting towards my plant catalogs........

DeeTee and Bob Taggart - 08 Mar 2008 17:08 GMT Teeheehee - we have had 11-12" so far and it's supposed to keep snowing until this evening some time. Our healthy neighbor has a snow blower and insists on keeping us cleared. The sidewalks look like a piece of cake sliced. The good thing is that Bob has finally consented to staying home from work today. He's mission essential but the lady who's there now has said she has no problem staying for another shift. We watched an SUV spin its wheels on our road and knew that Bob's little Ford Focus didn't have a chance. You have no idea how hard it was for me to convince him that his job was not worth his life! However, I did get through and when his boss called and said it was up to him, I was happy to hear him say he wasn't going to chance it.
