How many of you use these or have used them?
Did they work for you? How effective do you think they are over all?
Do they just relieve the pain on the area you put the patch, and don't
leave you with any drowsy feeling or drugged up feeling like oral pain
meds? Are they generally covered by insurance? Pros / Cons you'd
like to share???

Yes - Moderately - In area applied, but if that area is triggering pain in
other areas they can have a broader affect - No drowsyness because not a
systemic drug - Yes, they are covered, at least by my insurance. Biggest
pro is that the Lidocaine does not enter the blood stream. Biggest con is
that the patches are hard to keep on. You might have to tape them on, which
could mean needing help from someone to use them.
I think they are a good addition to your pain protocol, but they are not a
substitute for oral painmeds.

I have to agree with walt.. They work great when you are in great pain.. I
use them with oral meds to help with the pain.. they can be hard to keep on
though.. I use a little athletic tape.. since it can hold up to some sweat
and moisture.

I use them. My insurance covers them.
They generally work for me and they work in the area where I put them and,
from what I've experienced, the area immediately surrounding.
I have no trouble keeping them on. In fact when I put them on my knees, on
pulling them off, I felt like I was taking the skin of my knees with them.
Usually I'm putting on some portion of my back, either the lumbar region or
my shoulders.
I do 12 hours on 12 hours off.

Oh, thanks, you guys for this input, it is most helpful. While I do
have a good supply of pain meds and my RD is very good about wanting his
patients not to have to suffer a lot of pain, I personally don't like
taking the pain meds because they always seem to leave me very groggy
and not completely with it. I would love to have something to help with
the pain at times when it gets bad in just one or two areas without the
added side effects of the oral pain meds. These patches sound like a
great alternative, especially during the day when you want to be more
alert!
I sooooo appreciate your input!!!
BTW, Walt, how are you doing with your infection? Have you gotten it
cleared up now?

I LOVE mine! My insurance covers them. I use them on my lower back - they
stop the sciatic pain almost instantly. They also help my shoulder pain.
There is no drowsy feeling or drugged feeling at all. Just instant relief. I
even sent my RD a thank you card and told him that every time I put one of
the pads on, I thank him again.

Hi Donna, Yes, I used them on my shingles and I guess they helped a
little. They are kind of pricey but I used up a box of them and did not
reorder because the tape to make them stay on was my problem. If you get
medical tape strong and sticky enough to stay put,,,,, hell to get off and
the skin gets tired of all the pulling.
