A Japanese doctor says, "Medicine in my country is so advanced that we can take a kidney out of one man, put it in another, and have him out looking for work in six weeks."

A German doctor says, "That is nothing.  We can take a lung out of one person, put it in another, and have him out looking for work in four weeks."

A British doctor says, "In my country, medicine is so advanced that we can take half a heart out of one person, put it in another, and have both of them out looking for work in two weeks."

The American doctor interjected, "You guys are way behind.  We took a man with no brain, put him in the White House, and half the country is out looking for work."

... Just think: maybe chocolate works as well as Prozac.

LOL!  that was back in 1929-30s.  however, to be fair to hoover, even though
coolidge served during the most prosperous times in the 20's, just before
hoover, the foundations for the great depression was laid back then--with
credit becoming too easily accessible, for everything and everybody, and
spending, on everything, at all time highs.  it wasn't simply about the
stock market crash.

in actuality, hoover was a brilliant man, (as was his wife brilliant),
significantly above average i.q..  but, he was waaaay over his head when the
depression hit.  and too, it was a worldwide depression.  his administration
simply couldn't get a handle on it in our nation.   it required much
broader, integrated/synergistic and long range thinking, than hoover's
"efficiency movement" minutae-focused kind of thinking was, to pull us out
of it.  it also required much larger leaps of faith than he was accustomed
to making, as he was basically a scientist/engineer in his thought
processes.
