Is it sometime next week that you start another round of infusions?  marc
seems to have come up so quickly.  We have a lot going on the next week or
so, but I want to be sure to send lots of "no side effects!" vibes your way
when you're getting the infusion.

I agree - no side effects.  We will all be watching to see if you pull the
"medical attention" please side effect.  If so you get the aluminium foil
trophy I have been trying to give away.  (and trust me it is getting kind of
rusty so you don't want it.)

Everything I read says it gets easier each time - is that what they are
telling you?

So I agree with Nann- remind us of the date.  We will burn the candles a few
days before to help with those nasty side effects (I bought a new candle
today as a matter of fact.)

LOL.....no, Kelly, they have not been telling me it gets easier with
each treatment.   All they keep telling me is to hang in there and they
will try to work on the side effects.  I saw my lung doctor last week
and he was going to talk to the immunologist too and give her some
suggestions as to making things easier so that I will continue with the
infusions.  He and my pcp both know I'm not going to keep up with these
infusions if they continue to be as rough as they have been thus far.

I really am so very blessed to have such caring doctors.   They know I
will put up with a lot, but these reactions from the infusions are not
something I am willing to put up with for the rest of my life, so they
know they have to try to get them better controlled if I am to keep up
on doing them.

My lung doctor and I had a very long long talk and discussed many things
this last visit.

We talked about my allergic reaction to the antibiotic that was the one
that always worked for me.  He said he isn't all that concerned about
it, especially now that I have a port, because the port opens up a whole
nother book of things they can use via IV through the port.  He said
they can just have someone come out to my home and hook up IV
antibiotics if they need to now that I have the port.  This made me feel
a little better about that area.

We also talked about my bad knee and if I needed surgery on that knee,
this is the first time he rather firmly said if I need surgery he wanted
it to be at the U of M hospital instead of over at St. Joes because he
wants to be right there for the surgery and wants the immunologist to be
able to be right there also.   He said he would find me a good
orthopedic guy if I would be willing to have the surgery over at the U
of M where he is.  I said, lets wait to see what the MRI shows first,
and then we can go from there.  He's worried about things given both my
lung issues and then now add in the immuno- deficiency stuff too.

Just had the MRI done on saturday.  That's a whole nother story in and
of itself!!!

The rehab doctor, I saw last week as well. He did another round of botox
injections into the muscles in the back of my thigh to try to cut down
on the spasticity I continue to have since my stroke.  He said if the
MRI doesn't show the need for surgery, that  he would like to see me try
synvisc or one of the other similar types of products.  Although when he
was doing his exam, he said he could really feel the crunching going on
in my knee!

Whew so many different things to think about!  Makes my head spin
sometimes.

As always, never a dull moment!!!  LOL

Hugs and blessings to you all!

Note up on another thread.  Just starting to turn the corner again (although
my husband has Diane's crud and I am not touching him.  He is still sick
after a week - too much.  I have banished him to the upstairs bedroom! and
am using lots of purell and disinfecting towellettes.)

I have begun to cut my prednisone to get rid of some of the edema again.  It
seems to be working so the rituxan must be working. doing a little bit more
each days and the evenings are not a dead loss although I crash (that
unbelievable can't go another step and have no energy, beyond fatique ra
thing - you know the one) each afternoon and there is not a single thing I
can do about it.  I just plan around it.  I am going away with the girls on
a quilting trip to Puyallup, Washington this weekend though so will fight
that feeling.  I might need a little extra prednisone to get me through but
I always seem to cope through these (although I collapse for a couple of
days after!).

So the rituxan seems to be happening!  Thank goodness.  Still lots of
inflammation but the joint pain is a little less and the fatique a lot less.
I have a little bit of a life.  I will use the scooter lots on the trip and
make it through.

Have even planted a couple of plants in the yard - how cool is that!

Thanks for asking Donna.

Oooooooh, am so praying that you don't get your husbands crud and that
you can stay healthy!!!

Hope you have a fabulous time with your friends this weekend.  Is always
nice to get away once in a while and renew your spirit!

Glad to hear the rituxan is starting to kick in and that the pred dose
is coming down!!!   Good work!

May things continue to go well for you for a good long while.  You
certainly deserve it!!!

It is amazing how many people don't understand - I don't even call it
fatique or tell anyone I get tired.  This is all out and yup I know everyone
here understands it.  I wish the general public could.  I always describe it
as having the worst flu bug you could imagine.  That gets them a little
closer.

One step at a time Donna.  I will look for the article that said that things
improved as things went along with the ivig.  I believe the person said it
was due to the speed they were giving it and the make (apparently there are
different formulas or companies and they react differently to different
people????  It was a surfing thing that I was only barely paying attention
to everything said.)

Will be thinking of you.  Take one thing at a time - you have great doctors
at least.  That is always step one.

Any chance you are seeing the rituxan starting to kick in again???

Yes, Kelly, there are quite a few different manufacturerers of the IVIG
and each one  is a little different.  So, some people apparently do
react to some and not to others or at least not as severely to others.
So if we can't get things better controlled, then we may have to try
another brand.

Yes, I think the rituxan is kicking in as the main problems at the
moment with my RA is my left knee and my right shoulder, and a few hand
issues.  RD thinks the right shoulder may have torn rotator cuff, but
the knee for me has to be the first priority, then I will worry about
the shoulder.  Over all, though, I think the rituxan has kicked in and
is doing its work.

Yes, I am so very truly blessed by fantastic doctors who are so
compassionate and so willing to talk things through with me, explore
other options, call the other doctors when necessary, etc.    In
general, do what ever it takes!  Wish EVERYONE could have such
incredible doctors.  It really does make a big difference.

Hi Nann,

Bless your heart, you are so thoughtful.

My next round of infusions are on march 11th & 12th, and I am aleady so
dreading them.   Sure hope this next round will be easier.

Are you guys expecting any snow tonight? We're supposed to get another
4-8 inches, but Ohio is supposed to get hit quite a bit harder than us.

It has been so incredibly beautiful down here the last 2-3 days.  Sunny,
warm (in the upper 30's), just beautiful.

Any ways, thank you for thinking of me and give my best to Mike!   Hope
you both have a great week!!!

Any word yet, on the job front and the interview?

Hey, I like you!

and for you to be so dreading something after all you normally deal with,
makes a real impression on me. Oh, and because I like you, I want you to
stick around - and I figure you'll be around longer if they can make the IVIG
infusions tolerable for you.  And I'll bet ya pretty much everyone here at
ASA agrees with those sentiments.

This storm is supposed to be heavier downstate; we're only getting 2-3
inches.  indchills in the low single digits though.  I have one thing to do
this afternoon, but otherwise I'm staying indoors!  We still have so much ice
from last week, walking is really dangerous.  Snow on top of ice will make it
even worse.  sigh............

Not yet.  This is a process that is giving us a lot of training in patience!
