Oy, poor Emily! When we got back from our trip last week, we had a phone
message from her. The rounds of testing she's been through were all in. The
strain of mono she has is a more virulent one. Also, she has TB, not raging
yet, but with some minor symptoms showing up. Also, she tested positive for
parvovirus, but they aren't sure if that is active or latent. They've
started her on medication for the TB. Her mom, a local pathologist, has been
employing her medical contacts to get a rapid referral to an infectious
disease guy. No wonder Emily has been feeling so lousy! I sure hope the ID
guy can come up with some more effective treatment for her.

Oh, poor Emily. She has a triple whammy there. I'm happy she is
finally diagnosed so they can start fixing everything and making her
feel better.

Nann, surely hope Emily will be able to see an infectious disease doctor
quickly and that he/she will be able to help.

Wow, Nann! I'm glad they finally got things sorted out for Emily, but
holy cow does she have a lot to deal with. Mono in and of itself can
be very difficult to get rid of and leave you totally feeling like a
limp rag for months and months. Sorry to hear about the TB. Wonder how
she happened to contract that? Prayers that things start turning around
for her soon!

Firstly, Emily says thanks for the prayers, they welcome all they can get!
Secondly, Emily is currently in a doctorate program at a large university
with an international student body. Come to think of it, the schools where
she got her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, while smaller, also had definite
international student bodies. that alone really kicks up one's exposure
risks. they probably will never know for sure where she picked it up or even
for how long it has been lurking in her system, but I figure that's the best
explanation for her picking it up.
She has been really prone to respiratory crud and it has seemed to hit her
more frequently over recent years. Perhaps treating all of this will help
out in that arena as well.

Woops! That was a little strange, for sure. I,for one, am finding
the "thing" to be very confounding these days!
