I saw a dermatologist about my skin infections and he had a very different
take on them.  He said that the infections were actually secondary to a skin
condition called intertrigo.  That is a break down of the skin that occurs
in diabetics.  It is an inflammatory condition that occurs in areas of high
moisture, such as skin folds.  It makes the skin more susceptible to fungal
and staff infections.

So, his treatment plan is to use a steroid cream to calm the inflammation
and he wants me to stay on the weekly Humira and not go off of it if I get
an infection.  He thinks that, since my blood sugars are normal now and have
been for a while, the intertrigo should go away and not cause more problems.
Sounds good to me!  Only time will tell if he is right, but he sounded
pretty confident, so I am hopeful.

That's the update!

Wow,,,,,  I think you are right,,,,, good doctor too.    I have to say that
I find that things in life are not always as they seem even if it goes
against a life time of what makes sense to me now.  What is that???  Live
and learn???

Good - sounds like he's on top of it. I know I'd hate to have to keep going
off the Humira if it's working for you.

Hang in there! DeeTee

Humira gave me all kinds of rashes that ended up being infected sores.
After several biopsies 3 different dermatologists deducted that it was
a reaction to medication.  It took me a long time to isolate Humira
because I had to go off it for 3 months to prove it was the one.

stopped quickly.

I'm on Orencia now and have some rash on the backs of my legs and
buttocks but not as bad.  Scratching will cause infections.  I just
hope it doesn't get worse.  I've been on Orencia 3 months now and it
works well except that I am still taking 10 mg of prednisone a day.
My RD is set on getting off Prednisone entirely which I will try to
do.    I feel good now however and will not accept getting entirely
off If doing so means being an invalid again.

guy really knows his stuff and you are looking at better days quite soon.
