Hi Jan, and welcome to the alt.support.arthritis sandbox. Sorry
you have to be here. I have both osteo and rheumatoid and I hear
you about the pain. I had a flare with the RA a few weeks ago and
finally gave in and agreed to 10 days of Prednisone but my elbows
and knees and hands get really bad with the osteo at times. I
take Tylenol when the pain gets bad and am on Glucosamine. I
don't use the one with Chondroitin, my RD suggested Glucosamine
but thought studies have proven that Chondroitin doesn't help
that much. I know some people here take the combo. I see my RD
again in March and will bring it up again. Any thoughts from
folks here?
I find that heat sometimes helps and sometimes a topical gel. I
get one here called BioFreeze and some people use the arthritis
creams. I do sometimes too, the ones with the hot pepper stuff in
them,
I "know" someone in Australia from the MS group. I guess it is
hot summer there, I could use a bit of that in Ontario, Canada
about now.

I took the glucosamin-condroitin stuff for a few years back in 2000 through
last year when it didn't seem to do any good any more. I tried it again for
three months last year and got no apparent benefit at all. It used to be
quite helpful. I'm chatting with the doc in a few days about changing the
meds so I'll ask if he thinks there is any point in using it now. It used
to be quite helpful.
