RoseB - 18 Jan 2008 02:48 GMT Just before Christmas I stopped at the pharmacy to get my script refilled, and I was nabbed by a worker who asked me if I wanted to have my photo taken with Santa. I thought, "What the hay? I'll do it." The photo shows every wrinkle, but then I am almost 54 so what can be expected. LOL.

Here is my neighbour's cat. I actually thought it was cute that he was sleeping in my plant pot. My own cat is not allowed out, mind you. Click view as a show and then the ears won't be cut off.LOL http://photoshare.shaw.ca/view/9402126689-1186769256-95730/preview
I do have some of my class etc, but won't put those on a public forum. Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

Puddin' is adorable and I wouldn't give him up for nothiing, but if we do end up in a larger house and do get him a playmate as we've discussed, it will be a short-hair this time!

you and the cat are beautiful. I don't see you being old, I see the shine coming off you, of a woman that is enjoying life and is beautiful inside as well as outside.
Signature Love and Hugs to all Jo the squirrely one I am nuts about you.

Did you get what you asked Santa for? Hi Navy, You are welcome. I did not really get what I wanted because my family was not all together at Christmas time (A long story). The gifts don't matter, but the people do. Let's just say that for some of my family members, Christmas is a difficult time. Kelly - 20 Jan 2008 05:53 GMT Ah Rose - it has been a tough winter for you. I still owe you a phone call but have been lying low myself. This rituxan may work but the infusions are tough on my body and take a bit to rebound from.
Wish christmas was better but with all that has happened over the years I can see where it would be tough. Was thinking of you and the house today. Fingers crossed. Even renting until the right house came up to buy would be a change.
hope that things go better with the rd. Might be time for a change. Did you make a decision on your foot?
Hugs, Kelly

RoseB - 22 Jan 2008 06:50 GMT Hi Kelly, The same thing happened to me yesteerday with the arms and hands. I was not even able to get a drink of water, it was like my arms were immobilized by pain and weakness. I pushed myself to the limit to get 50 mg of pred into me, and by evening I was able to move one arm somewhat. I debated calling an ambulance for most of the day; the thought of not being able to drink had me worried about dehydration. By evening I was able to drink though so it was all right.
The only similarly between this incident and the one after New Year's was that I had done housework, and maybe that is exascerbating it. I think there may also be some carpal tunnel issues, but that is only a small part of it.
I see the rhemy on the 15th of Feb. Actually my rheumy is very good, and he will not be happy to hear that I have had problems. My family doc has a hands off approach to my RA, and when I asked him for an opinion of my feet he said that the rheumie would be the one to talk to about that. He is the one that prescribed the codeine contin, and it is very constipating for me. I took 60 mg of milk of magnesia on Saturday night, and it did very little, which turned out to be good, given the situation with my arms and hands.
My hands and wrists are better today, but my elbows are still sore. I did not go to work today, but just lounged around. I have not even really been able to shower. I think by morning I will do it one way or another.

RoseB - 23 Jan 2008 01:45 GMT >Hi Rose,,,, contin does the same thing to me.... To read your note kind >of scares me for you. You are very close to not being able to take care of >yourself. I just wanted you to know that you have been prayed for today and >may your RD pay just a little attention to your problems. >Harv Thank you so much Harv. I know that there are people that care, and I am greatly appreciative of that. I did go to work. The 50 of pred definitely helped. I did see the family doc and when I explained her was concerned and suggested I stay on pred for a bit. I strongly suspect I will be changing to humira.
Does humira have to be given in the docs office? Is it IM? I met a woman at the docs who is on humira and who was there for her shot. She claimed to have been on remicade for 3.5 yrs but had to go off because of not getting funding. Enbrel did not work for her, and she said humira is not remicade. That was a little discouraging to me as I had been thinking that it would be better for me. I realize that we are all different though.
I am actually amazed that I can type this much when two days ago I would not have been able to at all. Pred is a miracle, but I hate the other less welcome effects. Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

Plantmistress - 23 Jan 2008 16:06 GMT > >Hi Rose,,,, contin does the same thing to me.... To read your note kind > >of scares me for you. You are very close to not being able to take care of [quoted text clipped - 23 lines] > > Please remove "Ima" to reply. I've been on Humira for a while now. My initial shot was done in the doctor's office, so the nurse could teach me & my husband to give the shot. After that, it has been done at home. Mine comes in pre-filled syringes (two to a box) and I am to take the shot every other week. I usually take mine at night before bed, since about 6-8 hours after I get the shot, I feel all run down (kind of like I'm getting a cold - I'm sure its the medicine knocking my immune system down) - if I take it before bed, I can sleep through sickly feeling. The shot is supposed to go into a muscle, not a vein (did I guess correctly what you mean by "being IM"?). The medicine burns a little as it goes in, but icing the area first helps with that, as does letting the Humira warm up to room temp (has to be kept in the refrigerator). As for it not being like Remicade, I haven't had any troubles on it (other than a few more upper respiratory infections) - it has been my miracle drug. It stopped my fairly aggressive PA in its tracks (it also seems to be keeping the Psoriasis at bay for the most part).
I hope this was helpful & wish you luck!
Shannon
RoseB - 24 Jan 2008 01:36 GMT Thank-you, Shannon that was helpful.
You were correct in assuming that "IM" meant intra-muscular, as opposed to sub-cutaneous (under the skin or intra-venous). If it is something I can do myself that would be preferable, as having to go to the doctor's office does not always work.
When humira was still in testing and known as D2E7, my rheumatologist used to refer to it as the cadillac of the anti-tnf drugs. He was part of the clinical trials.
Thanks again. Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

Kelly - 24 Jan 2008 03:46 GMT The information on the internet says subq which is definitely doable Rose - same as enbrel rotating areas. If it is IM you can still do it at home - I know that they were teaching people at the arthritis society to do their own gold shots which were IM.
Crossing my fingers that this will be the answer - any answer now would be good.
Hugs, Kelly

To read your note >> >kind [quoted text clipped - 48 lines] > > Shannon Nann Bell - 24 Jan 2008 04:51 GMT I was 99% certain that humira is a home injection like enbrel, but checked the website (humira.com, natch) to be 100% sure. looks like they now have prefilled syringes and an injection pen like enbrel. don't know if the stinging issues are as great with it.
it surely does sound like you need a change. maybe you should lay in a supply of a few straws in case this happens again so you can at least drink? we have a friend who switched from enbrel to humira and finds it much more effective for him. he also tells me he knows several others in the area who are doing well on humira.

In the meantime, I am noticing that the pred is giving e more energy, but last night my heart was just racing. I will be glad when I can be right off.

Nann Bell - 25 Jan 2008 15:35 GMT I can well imagine 50 of pred a day would get your heart racing! I think it would for me as well. I'm just amazed you can function in the classroom on that much. I'd be losing it big time. Heck, I was getting short-tempered when we tried 5 mg/day for a month!
