Abby, is it a "gear-and-lever" type, or one that uses an elastic
cord to pull the jaws closed?

I spotted several on the web, including (20", 8oz $13.99) and
(32", 10oz $19.99).  Both are rated for up to 5 pound objects.

Then there was a "Featherlite" 26" for objects up to 3 pounds.
Described as "easy-to-squeeze trigger minimizes effort needed
to grasp objects....magnet tip helpful to pick up small metal
items.

Those are at http://www.rehabilitystores.com, but I got
894,000 hits searching google for "grabber."

Another is http://www.productsforseniors.com
