Thanks for all the help with a device to help with putting on socks.

Another question:

I have one of those grabbers for picking stuff off the floor. However, I
have to use so much pressure to squeeze it that the arthritis pain at the
base of my thumbs is awful.

Has anyone used such a device that needs just a bit of oomph to use?

I don't have that problem and just use the generic grabber they sell in the
drug stores.  Make sure you aren't using more pressure than necessary.  And
try other grips when you squeeze it, trying to leave your thumbs out of it.

Of course usually, I just use the grandkids, or leave whatever on the floor.

Things on the floor are not a problem for me- I have three Golden Retrievers
(and a German Shepherd mix).  The Goldens just *love* to get things and hand
them to me!  Now things that are higher up than about 2 ft. get to be a
problem.... we'll have to work on that.

Your best bet is to go to a local medical supplies/home health business
in your area and try out different types of grabbers to see which is
best for you and your needs.

Also, you may want to ask your doctor to send you to an occupational
therapist to learn how best to do certain things within your
limitations.   They really can be quite helpful and creative in helping
people out.
