As of this morning, I am half way to my weight goal!! I've lost 83 lbs
and now I just have to lose another 83. People ask me if it's
overwhelming to have to lose more, and I say "No, it's just 8 more tens"
:)  It's all in the way you look at things :) I am so looking forward to
August or September when I hit my goal :)

On another health issue, I had an A1C test done yesterday for my
diabetes. My A1C last August was 11.3 (causing my doctor to become quite
distressed). With diet and exercise and my weight loss, my A1C yesterday
was 6.2!! :-)))

I am ONE HAPPY CAMPER right now :)

My friend David and his wife gave me a gift certificate to a lovely
health spa near here, so I'm going to use it next Thursday to celebrate.
I'm having a massage and facial in the morning, spa lunch, then a spa
manicure and pedicure in the afternoon :)  They told me to arrive at
10:30 and I'd be done around 4:30 :-)))  And for the first time in my
life I don't have to worry about the robes not fitting me!!!!! :-)))

Life is good :)

The last time I had an all day spa visit was on my 50th birthday :)  I'm

I am working with a bariatrician (a doctor who specializes in medically
supervised weight control). I am also working out on a regular basis. I
was just accepted into a university program where I get to work out with
a personal trainer 3X a week.  He's really sweet and he's a great teacher.

Today I celebrated my 85 lb weight loss with a gift certificate to a spa
that friends gave me for Christmas. I had a hot stone massage, facial,
spa lunch, and a manicure and pedicure. I feel like a princess :))))
And for the first time in my life, I didn't have to worry that the robe
wouldn't fit me :)))))

Thanks, Kelly. My life has improved so much that I often wake up and
wonder if I'm still me, LOL :)))  And yes, Dundee has brought so much
joy into my life. It's his birthday on January 29th, so we're going to
have a little party. I'm going to invite a few of my friends and we'll
have cake and he can have birdie bread :-)))

Thanks, SJ. I feel a LOT better. I can't wait to see my cardiologist
next month as he doesn't know that I've lost so much weight :)  He'll be
really surprised :))

You can do it!  I've started a blog at carolemay.com I'm putting hints
and things to think about on there so I can hopefully help other people.
I have to tell you that yesterday when I was at the spa, I realized that
for the first time in my life, I felt like a "normal" person. It was so
good to be handed a regular large robe and it fit :))

It is so exciting to wear "normal" clothes. I used to wear 26W (though it
was a bit tight). I now wear a 12-14. I started in March 2006. I lost 135
pounds. It's been just a few months since I hit normal weight.

I was where I couldn't walk any distance without being totally out of
breath.

I made the decision at a Prayer Advance (it's a retreat) in Virginia (I live
in New Jersey). I just knew if I didn't lose weight soon I wouldn't be
around the following year. It wasn't "I think so". It was "I know so".

When I got home I used www.settingcaptivesfree.com to help me. They help
addictions (and with me it was just that) and I used The Lord's Table
section. It's a Christian site that uses the Bible. My church had a printout
from their site.

It's a 60-day course. I was bothered by it being only 60 days as I knew I
was more than 60 day's worth overweight. lol What it does is get you started
and give you the tools to continue.

Obesity is so miserable. It isn't just the physical toll it takes on your
body. It's the toll it takes on your psyche. I know how tough it is.

Carole, I'm so proud of you. :) I'll definitely check out your blog.

Hugs,
Nell
Carole - 19 Jan 2008 19:56 GMT
Hi Nell,

Yes, I LOVE buying a normal large size top :) I'm down to 16W or 18W
(depending on the brand) in my pants. I bought a pair or regular 18's at
the thrift shop. They are L.L. Bean pants and were almost brand new. So
they are hanging in the closet and waiting for me. They were only $4.99,
so I couldn't resist :)

I'm enjoying clothes shopping now. I only shop at the thrift stores
since I'm ingrowing clothes so fast. (I figure if you get larger, you
outgrow things, so now I'm ingrowing :))) I wish someone would start a
clothing exchange around here so that we could just take our too big
stuff and exchange it for a smaller size. My doctor has been talking
about it, so we'll see. Maybe I can get a job coordinating it :) By
going to thrift shops though, I've cut the cost way down, and I only buy
what I need.

I was also out of breath all the time. Some of it was from my congestive
heart failure, but I realize now that much of it was from my weight. Now
that I get to work out with the personal trainer 3X a week, I know that
I'll do even better and my body is starting to have a shape!!  And it's
not round, LOL :)))))

I've subscribed to your blog.

I agree with you about it being a lifestyle change.

With me, it was eating normal sized meals from the get-go. I was going
through full boxes of ice cream and snacks each day and the meals were
enough for a family of five. Recently I ran across a quote by Orson
Welles--"My doctor has forbidden me to have an intimate dinner for four.
Unless there are three other people present."

Carole, you're real encouragement. :)

Thanks for that quote! I may use that one day on my blog.

Right now I'm reading "This Year I Will . . ." by M.J. Ryan. It's a
fantastic book about making changes in our lives. And it's not the usual
stuff. I'm enjoying it very much!

Carole, enjoy that spa trip.  You do deserve it.  What do you eat on your
diet?

Thanks, Gwen. First of all, I don't consider it a diet. It's a food plan :)

I gave up all the "white stuff" - bread, potatoes, rice, flour, and
sugar. I also chucked out everything in my refrigerator that had high
fructose corn syrup in it.

I eat proteins (meat, poultry, fish, cheese, eggs, etc.), fruits, and
vegetables.  If I go out with friends and have something that is not on
the above list, then the next day I go straight back to it.

I now have more energy than I ever though imaginable, my skin looks
fantastic, and I don't have edema in my calves anymore. I've also
lowered my A1C (I have diabetes) from 11.3 to 6.2. My doctor gave me a
big hug the other day when she saw that number!

I just went to Good Will and bought jeans. They are Dockers size 16W.
The last time I bought jeans they were a 26W.

And now when I look in the mirror now, I'm SO HAPPY :)))

Carole :)

Oh, and I gave up pasta too (the white kind - I do occasionally have the
stuff that I get at the organic food store :-)

I've lost some weight also, but not like you did.  Way to go, Carole.  I
found what has helped for me is, to eat one serving.  I make it a habit to
look at the package and see what one serving is.  Usually it is smaller than
I would think.  There is a book call Mindless Eating that really opened my
eyes to the pitfalls of modern meals.  I also try to cut my serving in half
when I go out to a restaurant and put it in a box and take it home.  Then I
thoroughly enjoy the serving I have.  You had a very good point.  If you do
go off your "food plan" (I like that), the next day pick up again.  Also
what helped me was to weigh every morning.  That way I can catch when the
pounds are sneaking up on me.  We are all so proud of you, Carole.  Way to
go, girl!

Thanks, Navy :)

I got accepted into a strength training program at the local university.
It's for adults with diabetes, and I start tomorrow! :)))  Yesterday I
went and had a body comp done there in the Bod Pod. It was cool :)) They
also weighed us, took measurements, and gave us some agility tests so
they can see if we have improved in June.  I had fun showing off my
photos :))

Every time I have surgery, I lose weight. This morning I was down to 227.2.
That's almost 15 pounds just doing surgeries. However, it is not my first
choice in the weight control battle. LOL
