Does anyone on here have the AARP dental insurance?  Now that I've lost
a lot of weight and am continuing to do so, I need to get my teeth
fixed. They are a mess and since my heritage is British, I have crappy
teeth (Brits are known for that, BTW :)  Or if anyone knows of another
plan that would be good for me since I'm on disability, please let me know.

On another note, I was accepted into a research program since I also
have diabetes. The local university is doing a study on strength
training and diabetics, so I get to work out 3X a week with trainers.
It's a great thing since it's all free :))

Carole,
International women;s writer's guild as a good program.  You have to
join IWWG but there is no waiting coverage.  i have double coverage
and also have costco dental insurance.

Thanks, I'm not a member of Costco, it's just not practical for a single
person. I can't find spaces for all the stuff I have now, so shopping
at a place like that would be nuts :)  I'd have to move out, LOL!!  I'll
take a look at the IWWG, thanks for that. I didn't even know there was a
Women's Writers Guild. I should get back into writing. I've written a
few articles that were published in magazines and I enjoyed it. I just
wish they paid more :-))

I have Delta Dental insurance through the Automobile Club (AAA) and it
was recommended to me by the dentist's office when it was found I needed
some expensive work done.  This past year it paid $985 to the dentist
and it costs me $42 month (I've only had it since April). Copay is 30%
on most things and 50% on crowns with two free cleanings and xrays per
year.  This year it will pay 50% of a crown that I need.

Thanks, Ann. The AARP plan is Delta Dental. So it's probably the same
thing. They are charging $48.62 for Plan A (the best plan) and $32.91
for Plan B.

Plan A pays for 100% of diagnostic and preventative, plan B pays 80%.
Plan A has a $50 deductible and $1200 max per year and Plan B has a $100
deductible and a $1000 max. Other than that, they are both the same.
Peridontal maintenance cleanings (I have no idea what that is) is 80% in
Plan A and 50% in Plan B.

I've also found a couple of places that have sliding scale, so I'm not
sure at this point which way to go.

We have dental insurance through Mike's insurance plan.  Never wanted one in
the past as the benefits rarely seemed to exceed the costs, i.e. if we put
the cost into savings, we'd have the money to pay for the benefits!  As long
as we have it, we've been using it to get me started on some needed crowns.
They only pay for cleanings twice/year though and our dentist has Mike on a
3x/year course.  So look closely at the cost:benefit ratio before you sign
up.  Also, make sure a dentist you like is on the plan.  Oh, and do you have
a dental school in your area?  If so, you might be able to get reduced cost
care there if you are willing to go that route.

No dental school. There's probably one way down in Seattle, but that's
over 2 hours away and the traffic down there now is nuts! I'm looking
into some places that have sliding scale.
