The main point I wanted to make was:
Since most of the arthritis in my knees are behind the knee caps, and they
re-use the knee cap in a replacement, a knee replacement probably wouldn't
help me.  I was wondering if anybody else had been told that?

Hi Navy - I just looked this up here:
http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/knee_replacement.html

and it quotes:  "Sometimes the back of your kneecap is replaced with a
plastic prosthesis. This is called patellar resurfacing."  - about halfway
down.

If you do a search on Google using the term: knee replacement replacing knee
cap -  it will give lots of links.  Good luck

LOL, I can't always help people, but glad to be of service.  I hope you get
your problems sorted very soon.  I recently had my second knee replacement
and am so grateful not to have every step I take hurt!

I don't need one yet, thank goodness, but I know it will happen in the
future, maybe.   I do appreciate the help.  Happy New Year.
