question about foot

Squirrely - 26 Dec 2007 17:48 GMT the bone on top of the foot from the big toe area up to the ankle, it hurts like heck if I rub up against it with my foot when sleeping or if I rub the blankets up against it. I am not sure what this is, could it be the arthritis stuff since I supposedly have it prominently in my feet.
I don't remember hurting the foot. I mean I could have and just don't remember it.
It doesn't look any more swollen than the other one does and the other one doesn't hurt. When I say swollen, that fatty looking part there by the big toe and the next one to it coming back about two or so inches is kind of puffed up but that is on both feet so I don't see any difference from one foot to the other. Had Jim look and he doesn't see anything either.
So could this just be like an arthritis type thingy because my feet do get cold during the night or nap time. But I can't have socks on because then I wake up sweating too too much.
If I get a chance when I am at the drs today I will ask him but I am not sure he will take a look at it because I am going in to see if I have pnemonia or what so that will take preference right now. I am so sick.
Thanks for any opinions, I know you are not drs. But figured if any had this same thing going on they would have an idea for me to think about discussing with the dr when I can.

Jean - 27 Dec 2007 00:48 GMT I had a lot of pain on the top of my left foot so asked the doc about it. Yup, RA there too. I guess I just thought that RA was only in the joints but it's everywhere. He put me in an ankle high boot so my foot wouldn't go up and down and that helped a LOT!!!
Good luck!!

Squirrely - 27 Dec 2007 05:41 GMT Thanks Jean,
I asked the dr today I was surprised she answered. Usually they will only do one thing at a time. But she said it appears to be arthritis.
I am sorry you have to deal with that too with the foot. That hurts like a son of a gun.
I am glad the ankle boot helps you. That sounds interesting. I never thought of the movement doing that. You gave me something to think about with that one. I will have to see what I can come up with that one to maybe try to stablize the bone or something. Just a thought though, not sure I will do anything about it till I talk to a dr or someone like that about it, don't want to hurt myself more.
But then again she said I have bronchitis too and since I am allergic to all the antib's she gave me nothing for it except to say to up my pred from 20 to 30 for 4-5 days. I already did that and don't see a difference. But what can you do. I don't have money to go to dr to dr till I find someone that will fix me. No insurance. No money. Real fun.

I went to bed on Sunday night feeling just fine. During the night, my foot began feeling just as you described. By morning I could not roll over in bed or put weight on it. It also swelled and turned colors.
But I'm glad that you at least know the cause!
Take care,
Vickie B. (((((squirrelly)))))
Squirrely - 27 Dec 2007 17:40 GMT Thanks Vickie,
I had forgotten that is how yours started out. I feel for you with that one. Oh ouch. Take care and I hope things are going well with you.

I have what you describe, as well as just about every other inflammation issue possible, in my left foot. that foot and ankle have always been my worst RA site. I hope yours is temporary.
hugs, sweetie.

Squirrely - 27 Dec 2007 20:49 GMT Diane,
I am sorry you deal with this too. It hurts. ;-)
It was funny but till you mentioned this and that it is your left foot, I wasn't thinking about what foot this was in. It is my left foot too. We are twins. ;-0
But it made me stop and think. It is my right foot and ankle and leg that I really messed up when I fell that time. So it is weird that it is my left foot is acting up. Maybe it thinks the right one gets too much attention and now it is begging for attention too. ;-)

I only had to wear my boot for four weeks and it really, really helped. I get a twinge every now and then but it sure took 99.9% of the pain away. Apparently the up and down movement was just aggravating all the little bones on top of my foot. Side to side movement was okay. And the boot was pretty comfy ... only went to my ankle and was really padded and it hooked with velcro straps. My back ached for a few days right after I started wearing it because it made me walk a little cockeyed, but that went away pretty fast.
Sorry about the bronchitis. I seem to get that twice a year and since my immune system sucks, to say the least, it will hang on forever!! Blah!!! Hope you feel better soon!!!
Jean
> Thanks Jean, > [quoted text clipped - 26 lines] >> >> Jean Squirrely - 27 Dec 2007 20:40 GMT That is great that you only had to wear the boot for four weeks and it helped like that. I can imagine though that it would throw your back out of whack from being different. I do that at times when my hip does its thing and then I walk funny because of it and there goes the back then. I do feel for all of us that deal with this kind of thing. I wish none of us had to deal with it, but then we would never have met each other either would we. That I wouldn't have liked. I love all of you and feel like we are all brothers and sisters here.
This cold that has been going around keeps doing me in. We had it back a few months ago and couldn't get rid of it. Then i had a bladder infection and the pnemonia. Got on the bladder antib and it kicke out the pnemonia too which they said wouldn'nt happen. So I was feeling kind of pretty good for a week or two and boom got the cold back and there comes the bronchitis and asthma stuff back. So it does linger around and around and around. ;-(
Thanks Jean again. I hope I will soon get better this stuff is getting really really old as a lot of the others know too. I feel for all that keep getting this stuff back too.

But as for the bronchitis, with my mild (cough variant) asthma, any additional breathing issue is uncomfortable. I found using a Guiafenisin product (Mucinex, Robitussin; generic brands) at a dose of at least 600mg/4X per day to help significantly. They are all over the counter medications.
It loosens things up, making breathing/coughing more comfortable. Not sure if there are any contraindications for you with your other medical issues. But that, combined with a the steroid inhaler for my asthma, help get me through the rough spots.
An ENT told me about Guiafenisin about 15 years ago. Its just an expectorant. And some say its no more helpful than lots of water or chicken soup. But for those of us with congestion issues (both sinus and chest), the thinning out of the mucous makes it less irritating; makes my chest feel less tight, and therefore less likely to make me cough my head off.
Its even more helpful when my sinuses hurt. Makes my sinuses drain better and since the mucous is thinner, it doesn't irritate my throat as much and provides relief from that "I'm choking on this junk" feeling.
Remember to up your fluid intake when you take guiafenisin. It needs the extra fluid to work properly.

Squirrely - 27 Dec 2007 21:03 GMT Adelle,
thanks, I am not sure about the Guaifensin stuff. I will have to ask about that because of my bp stuff, I know there is alot of stuff I can't use. So will have to put in a call to the dr and ask her about that.
I would be concerned though about the fluid thing because I am dehydrating as it is. I am on three qts of pedialyte plus about 1/2 gal of water and still dehyrdating from the fever and the sweating issues. Never a dull moment here trying to keep my hydrated.
But boy this sounds like it would work and help me out. I have thick musous alot. At least the first few days of this it was real fluid and coming out, but now it is going into the thickness too. It doesn't help either that I can't drink, juices, hot drinks, to help with this. I would kill for a hot drink right now too, it is so cold. I know it is colder else where but when you don't have the money to run the heater alot it is cold. ;-)
I can't drink coffee or tea anymore because it makes me throw up. Then I found out a few weeks ago I am allergic to hot choc. So that doesn't let any thing hot for me to drink. Can't do broths because of gall bladder like reactions to them too. I hate this body at times. I wish I were normal.
Thanks again Adelle for the suggestion.

Can you drink hot water with a squeeze of lemon in it? That's not so bad.

Not sure about the lemon Leslie, but I can try it. Just not today can't drink much of anything, had runs all last night.
Alice, fruit doesn't agree with me at all and neither do teas.

Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. - 28 Dec 2007 23:20 GMT Jo, please be careful to not get dehydrated- with the runs it can happen very quickly. Hot water with lemon is really quite good. If you get too much lemon it can pucker your mouth, but just a bit is good. You could also add a drop or two of honey if the lemon alone doesn't appeal to you. I drink my tea- iced or hot- without any type of sweetener, so I don't miss the sweet when I have hot lemon water. I've heard the hot lemon water also has some health benefits, but I can't remember what they are??? LOL I think I remember that I used to have a memory???
Leslie- hoping you get feeling much better quickly
> Leslie and Alice, > [quoted text clipped - 11 lines] > > Can you drink any of the fruity herbal teas? Squirrely - 29 Dec 2007 18:11 GMT Thanks again Leslie and all. Good ideas I will try them.
Don't worry Leslie, I know all about dehydration because of my adrenal issues so I do watch that closely. I am trying my best. ;-)

Judy Bay - 28 Dec 2007 22:25 GMT Sometimes a cup of hot water with a spoon of molasses in it, maybe?

I really feel that's what happened to my right hip, after favoring the left for a decade before the THR in 2000.
