To all of you who sent cards to my girls-this is just a great story!

So kids are out of school today and they are making yarn strings to
put on the walls and display their cards!  This followed a two hour
discussion last night about the best way to put up the cards (done, by
the way, at the kitchen table drinking the hot chocolate that was send
in a card-not sure who by but each girl is keeping track).

but... here is the really wonderful thing and the true meaning of
Christmas.  Each girl got five dollars in a card from an asa member.
They were so excited about that.  Last night we got a call from our
valley Christmas project and for the first time, there is not enough
food for the families who need food.  It was announced on our local
news and the turkeys and food still didn't come in. So I decided to go
to Costco today and buy turkeys.  The girls just came into my room a
few minutes ago and asked if 15.00 would buy a turkey.  I said it
would.  They are going to contribute their money and buy a poor family
a turkey.  I thanked them and told them it was a great idea.  So our
card project not just gets a turkey for a family in need, but allows
three little girls to express generosity to others and give all that
they have.

Santa Is pleased.  He is going to be very very happy with my girls.

I am the luckiest person in the world

Melinda, that story brought tears to my eyes. Please give each
girl a hug from Ontario. What a wonderful thing for them to do.

Their mother and grandmother are also very fortunate women.  To have you to
look after the girls, yes.  But also to have raised such wonderful girls.  I
can see now why their mother is  able to go and do what she must.  She knows
their hearts are big enough to cope.

M,

and we are the luckiest people in the world for knowing you and seeing how
giving and caring you are. I always say when I grow up I want to be just
like M. ;-)

You are such a good example for these young children. It does my heart good
to see that they have you.

What incredible girls but also what an incredible "child sitter".  Thank you
again M for reminding us what Christmas is all about.  These girls are so
special but so are you and their parents must be the best to have given them
the true meaning of giving.

Enjoy the season.

I told a United Church of Canada minister friend of mine about
the cards and the girls. He was so impressed he is talking about
it in his sermon Sunday. His sermon is called The Gift and he
thought that would fit right in.

United Church of Canada is probably close to the Presbyterian
Church in the U.S.

The church where I saw Krishna Das in Vancouver was a United Church of
Canada. It was very pretty and more like a cathedral! It was huge and
held 1200 people and when we sang, it was great :)

You all deserve a huge pat on the back. I mean all who sent cards and wishes
to the children.
They got to experience first hand what caring people can mean to others.
They are just passing
on what they learned from this experience. Congrats to all of you!

You are truly experiencing first hand the true Christmas spirit!  That was
so touching that the girls wanted to give the gift they received from
someone to help someone else.  Nanny

Post-script for the girls. My minister friend said he used part
of the story about the cards and the money for the turkey in his
sermon. He said there was hardly a dry eye in the place. He said
"It was a wonderful experience for us all."

Merry Christmas to you and the girls as well as everyone on asa.

Joan,
that is such a great story.  I will when I don't have 14 people as
house guests, tell you even more connections and trippy things that
have come from this whole card experience.
