Donna G. - 20 Nov 2007 08:41 GMT HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
Hi All,
Just want to take a minute to wish you all a most blessed thanksgiving day!
May your travels be safe, may your time with family, friends, and loved ones be joyful and filled with laughter, and may we all take a minute or two to stop and reflect on the many many blessings we each have in our lives every single day despite our chronic illnesses!
I, for one, am so very thankful for not only my family, but also my church family, my friends, and of course the friendships made online that have blossomed and and grown and become so important.
Thank you for the many ways in which you bless me by sharing of yourselves!
May you be equally as blessed and have a day filled with lots of love, peace, joy, and harmony!!!
Hugs,
. . . .

On this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for my weight loss and my little birdie, Dundee :)))
I've added some new photos to my weight loss page. I've now lost 43 lbs since I started seeing the bariatrician in August. And when I recently went to my PCP for my flu shot, she weighed me and said "Do you know what you weighted last year when you were here?" I said "no" and she turned my chart around so I could see the number. Since last year I'm down 63 lbs. I've given away all my 1X, 2X, and 3X clothes, and looking forward to a whole new life.
My weight loss page is at http://carmay.com/carole
Today for Thanksgiving, I'm having turkey, veggies, and organic raspberries for dessert.
And now, I'm going out for a nice walk :)

Kelly - 24 Nov 2007 01:43 GMT What a difference a year makes Carole. I remember how tough it was before you moved. And the problems with the health insurance etc. And the loneliness without Dundee. My heart has gone out to you these past few years but you are making it! I am using you as an inspiration but it is hard I must admit. Taking small steps but sure. Coming down off the prednisone is helping a lot - 10 mg is way too high for me and for way too long. I know how hard it must be for you too as exercise hasn't been an option for a lot of the time. You must feel it in your body though.
Look forward to that whole new life - you deserve it and have worked so hard to do it. You have to live long you know - birds live longer than the average person by a long shot and Dundee needs you healthy.
A happy thanksgiving to both of you.

> Happy Thanksgiving! > [quoted text clipped - 17 lines] > > Carole Carole - 25 Nov 2007 19:01 GMT Thanks, Kelly. I went to help my friend, David, at his concert last night and we took some new photos. I have to add them to my page. I couldn't believe those photos were of me! I looked at them and said "Holy toledo!!"
Yes, I did go through VERY hard times. But as they say, those times make you a stronger person. And perhaps I needed to go through all of that to be able to do what I'm doing now. I want to do a whole section on my website in hopes of inspiring others.
It is hard when you are taking prednisone. My friend, Joan, used to take that, and I know what she went through.
Exercise is getting easier for me since I've dropped the weight. I did my first mile last week on the treadmill. It felt SO good :) I had to work up to it, a little at a time. I can't wait to see the cardiologist in February as he's not going to recognize me, LOL!!
I'm even thinking of asking him if I can go back to work, even if it's just part time...I'm just not sure what I want to do.
Yes, you are right, birdies do live longer. He'll be 8 in January and cockatiels generally live to their 20's. He's a sweetie. I bought him his own stocking for Christmas and I put his name on it :) Is he spoiled??? Nah :-)))))
I have to come back up to BC one of these days. I don't know if I'll do Vancouver - it's too much traffic. But I'm sure there are very pretty places up there :)

Also you came up on a Friday afternoon - never the best I must admit. The best thing to do though would be to take the Anacortes Ferry over to the island. Very relaxing and the island is totally different - more like the St. Juans.
Don't rush the work thing - you need to be comfortable walking to the store etc. The cardiologist is going to be impressed though. You might like to consider some gentle (note I said very gentle) volunteering if you start getting antsy. Something you can work at your pace on and be around people. A drop in basis would be best so you are not pressured if having a bad day.
Or join a club. I go to my quilt guild meetings when I can. They are relaxing, I am socializing, learning things and out of the house (also costs next to nothing which is a bonus.)
You have done great Carole. So impressed.

I couldn't [quoted text clipped - 43 lines] >> >> Kelly in BC Canada Carole - 25 Nov 2007 22:33 GMT Thanks, Kelly. I found some other photos of me so I added them to my page along with the ones that my friend, David, took last night. He did a concert near here and I went to help out with the CD and songbook table. I was so surprised when I saw the photos as it suddenly hit me that I had lost a LOT of weight, LOL! I also found a photo that was taken in early December of last year. Wow, what a difference!
I might do that and take the ferry up there. That sounds like it would be a nice outing. I hope they are going to do something about the border for the Olympics. I really wanted to come up for the figure skating, but I can't even fathom what the border crossing will be like during the Olympics if that's what it's like on a regular Friday afternoon.
I have been thinking about doing volunteer work somewhere. I just have to find a place that allows drop ins. Most of the places I've looked at want you to sign up for at least 6 months and specify what days and hours you will be there. If I was going to do that, I might as well get a paying job...and I don't think I'm up to that.
I tried joining a photography club here but it was very cliqueish. I went a few times, but it was always the same. I took a series of classes at the local hospital called "Healthy Weight" and my group decided to stay together to support each other. We meet for coffee once a month, so I do have that. But I'm thinking that I need more. I am getting antsy now that I've lost weight and have more energy. So I'll have to see what I can find :)

You've done a remarkable job of dieting and you deserve a lot of credit for accomplishing this even with all your medical problems.

> I'm even thinking of asking him if I can go back to work, even if it's > just part time...I'm just not sure what I want to do. I'm with Kelly, try some voluntering first. It will help you discover what you can and can't do, what kind of stamina you have, etc. Also, if you do go back to work, it will look good on your vita and will sound good when you tell the employer-to-be that this showed you what you CAN do after being on disability.
In Boston, I volunteered with the Arthritis Foundation. (While I have some arguments with the national office, I was most impressed with the folks in the Mass. office.) They did want you to tell them when you'd be here, for their planning purposes, but you weren't tied to it the way you are with a job. I bet the heart assoc. in your area could use volunteers, or the AF, or amny others. And you can do 3 or 4 hours/week and see how long it takes you to recover from that before trying a job.
Oh, and medically affiliated groups tend to be most understandig about health limitations!

He has me wrapped around his back paw. I still find it hard to believe a cat has this dog person feeling guilty about leaving him alone for 3 days. (but he is a very social cat!)
