I went back to OSU for a follow-up.  Dr. Kantor's opinion is that I don't
have active RA, but I do have OA in my hands and lower spine AND I have
fibromyalgia.  Sooooooooooo, he's having me stop the MTX (I'm not so sure
about that one), switch my prozac to cymbalta (for the fibro) and put me on
8 mg of Zanaflex at bedtime (for the fibro).  I've already decided that the
Zanaflex isn't for me as I have awakened several time over the last 3 nights
from movements I made while dreaming.  Then I couldn't get back to sleep for
a while.  Yes, I'll call and report this today.  I'm also calling my PCP and
letting him know right away what the treatment plan is.

I certainly hope the lack of MTX doesn't allow my RA to flair up!  I don't
need that this time of year!!!!!

were you taking zanaflex before this?  8 mg sounds like a mighty high dose to
start a person out on.  i started on 2 mg TID prn, then moved up to 4 mg TID
prn.  Now I generally take just one at bedtime, only take more when something
unusually stressful hits my muscles.  I can't imagine taking 8 mg.

I find that sometimes my legs get more twitchy for a while when it is first
kicking in.  I don't lnow if that is the type of reaction you get though.
You may just be one of those people who react differently - like my husband
who finds benadryl wakes him up rather than putting him to sleep.  Ask your
doctor about alternatives to Zanaflex.

I'm one of the lucky few that codeine makes hyper, MM - it makes my
heart beat faster & I can't sleep for anything. I would definitely
check w/ the doc to see if you can get something else.

It isn't any fun at all is it.  All the good narcotic type painkillers make
me hyper and sometimes make me hallucinate.

I'm just glad I'm not allergic to them as I can't take NSAIDS either.  But
its the pits to know that if you choose pain relief, sleep will be out of
the question.

Me too, Kelly.  I can only take 1 mg or I will sleep all day instead of just
until 10 or 12!

Dr. office called and told me to try just 2 mg.  I don't know but I'll give
it a try.

I tried 2 mg of Zanaflex, but still had the same, although less severe,
reaction.  Dr.'s office said to stop taking if no change.  I didn't take any
last night and I actually got some sleep!
