Orthovisc - new question

OK, I've had my three Orthovisc shots in both knees.  The last was a
little over a week ago.  About three days after those shots I started
to notice an improvement.  Pain is much less but still not low enough
so that I can comfortably be on my feet for more than 10 or 15 minutes
(which is 10 or 15 minutes better than it was before!).

Here's my question:  can I expect it to continue to improve for a
while or is this it?  I've looked everywhere on the Internet but
cannot find info on time frames for Orthovisc.  For Synvisc it says
that maximum pain relief is achieved between 8 - 12 weeks after last
shot.  Would it be the same for Orthovisc?

I was very surprised when I couldn't find Orthovisc on the RxList.com
website.

I've also notices that my knees are a little puffy and slightly
discolored.  I'm guessing the puffiness is the fluid that was injected
and the rest is bruising.  The last shots were real killers.

My Ortho said that "ice is your best friend" and so I ice three times
a day.  It helps.

same thing as the synvisc injections. You can find that word on RX list.

they might be different manufactures who knows LOL.

But they do work well for people.  I say give it time

Plus raise the knee and ice. Did the doc say anything to use about using braces, norprene or
otherwise??

Nope.  He just said to ice.

Remember to limit the ice to 15 minute intervals.   It may take 8 to 12
weeks to show the final improvements.  Do remember <g> to not overdo it,
just because the knee feels back to normal before the pain.  LOL  I did once
and that was the last time I did.  I also had trouble with the bursa, so if
you don't feel like it really is improving, see if they will give you some
shots in the bursa around the knee.  I had one stubborn one.  Now, all feels
fairly good.  This is the third series of shots I had (they only last for 12
to 24 months, depending on the shots) so I spend my time, when not thinking
of other things, waiting for the other shoe to fall and it will be time to
go get the next series.  I really get about 18 months to 2 years improvement
and almost complete freedom from pain.

Wow!  I'd be VERY happy with results like that.  Which drug did you
get?

I've had three different brand names.  The first one was Hyalgan (3 shots)
and it lasted about a year.  The second one was Arthrovisc (3shots) and
lasted about the same time.  The third one was Supartz (5 shots) I finished
in July and I'm still working on that one.  It feels fine.  I did have some
trouble with a bursa, but she put cortisone in it and all is fine now.  I
find the shots were more comfortable if they put an anesthetic in first.  I
said 18 months to 2 years before.  That was before I checked my records.
It's hard to tell when the end of the comfortable period is because it comes
on very gradual.  Does this help?
