Sheesh,
Had to pick up Mike from school today. Has a badly pinched sciatic nerve.
Came on gradually and by mid morning he could barely move. Doc gave him
nsaid and musle relaxer, ice, and rest. Mikes already blaming me!
Me?!!  :-)

Did comment he now understands what I go through with my back. Another dark
cloud with a silver lining.

Be well, be happy, be pain-free,

Oh man Mike get better quickly. Gary it does start young with some. My boys
both have JRA, fms, and CFS it started when they were in their teens.

Sorry that you have to deal with this too Dad. I know it hurts to see your
children like this.

Easy on him Gary,,, that sciatic stuff really hurts and it is probably a
pain he has never felt before.   I remember my dads pain with it when I was
a boy.

It's a killer, for sure, like sharp knives sticking into you.

Gary,I've never had sciatic pain so I don't personally know how bad it is,
but I have heard lots of folks say it is very, very painful.  So give him
lots of sympathy and encouragement from me.

Oh, poor Mike!  My most sincere sympathies to him.  Tell him to do as
the doctor says, take it easy and praying he gets to feeling better real
soon.   Sure hope this doesn't become a chronic issue for him!!!

Praying for you, too, Gary, that you can nurse him back to good health
and that the lessons he learns from this experience bring you both
closer together.

Hugs,

Donna

No fun indeed.  That definitely cramps a teenager's style!  I hope it
eases up soon.  That kind of pain truly takes it out of you.

Looking for another silver lining, perhaps this will motivate him to
learn good back care practices now and help him avoid future damage.
I know it would have taken something dramatic to get my attention back-
wise at 17.  (And how on earth did he get to be 17?  Isn't he actually
only about 15?)

We had a conversation yesterday about staying active to keep this from
recurring. He isn't the most
energetic person in the world as far as exercising goes. His x-rays looked
ok so I believe they are treating it as spasms.
How did ANY of us survive childhood without getting "offed" by our parents??
:-)
Actually he won't be 17 'till the 14th of this month. Close enough though.
I have not been hard on him for blaming me for his sciatica. He was making a
joke as I have done with my
parents for my inherited problems. (moms astigmatism, dads arthritis.)
Another day off of work. Serious bathroom cleaning today. Can you picture
how big a mess two guys and two dogs can make?!!

Gary, you wouldn't believe that only one person lives here if you saw my
house --and my bathroom.  If I had two dogs instead of one;
I don't even want to think about it!

I did that too, telling my floks I knew I was their biological kid as
I had Mother's allergies and Daddy's RA (when they thought I had RA
rather than PA).  They weren't ready yet to joke about it, but I think
they kneww that was how I meant it.

No offense, but I'd rather not!  Then again, our hairy feline is
shedding his summer coat, to make room for the winter one.  I need to
remind Mike to vacuum before I return from traveling with my mom the
next week.  There's already a lot of fur drifting around.  I could be
so much more oblivious to it if not for the allergies!

Sorry to hear of this. Hope he feels better soon.

I started getting sciatica after falling off a balance beam when I was 14.
But don't assume the pain is from disc issues; For me it was from muscle
spasms. Once the pain subsides some, specialized stretching programs can
ward off recurrences.
