Hello,
My name is Polly and I'm a freelance writer working on a story for a
national magazine about perfectionism and how it helps/hurts your
efforts to manage arthritis. I'd like to interview a couple of people
over the phone -- ASAP -- about your own perfectionistic qualities and
whether you think it's a helpful or harmful trait to have.
Any takers? If so drop me an e-mail and I can give you more details
from there.
Thanks,
P
perfectionism???? oh, now i remember! my common sense caused mine to
disappear a decade or so ago. with arthritis, and for everyday
tasks/living, perfectionism is unsustainable. if and when it exists at all
now, it exists on a very limited scale. when it does exist now, generally
that is in the limited areas of one's life where it provides one pleasure
and/or a sense of accomplishment.
most of us know that overdoing anything physically simply costs us too much.
that cost reminds us to not even want to make anything, that requires near
perfection, an everyday occurrance.

lol - it's a good thing I never believed in a pristine house and and doing
*everything* others thought I should be doing! The problem is my allergies
just do demand *some* housework (boo! hiss!) and I need to be able to do
enough stuff to avoid total boredom, which leads to me munching way too much.
perfectionism would trly make one nuts with arthritis, not to mention the
pain of pushing oneself that hard. Ugh.
