I have heard that name but do not know him personally. I do know that I was told that OSU had a
"good" rheumy department. So hang in there and ask questions and more questions
good luck

Don't know that one. I see Dr. Kevin Hackshaw, also at OSU.

I also see Dr. Hackshaw and I feel he literally gave me my life back. He has
ALL the skills a doctor needs. I don't think he is accepting new patients.
If you can get him, go for it.
Good luck!

I had Thomas Hawk do spinal surgery on me in 2000. He was a teacher at OSU.
The surgery was done at Riverside Methodist. He was a very good surgeon.

I had my appt w/ Dr. Kantor yesterday. I am significantly underwhelmed!
(yes, that is a word!) I know I'm not a severe case, but I felt like I had
to PROVE I have RA (after 17 years!!!!). He did recognize the psoriosis
under my nails immediately (and as usual, was surprised that I don't have ps
anywhere else). My x-rays "looked good". My bloodwork from Sept was all
negative.....never did get a positive, even at diagnosis! He did order more
blood work and I don't know if only duplicated what my PC ordered.
Maybe I'm not very severe *because* we've been treating the RA
appropriately. What I know right now is that 1) I am having more pain, 2) I
have had more problems in the past, 3) my PCP wanted me to see a rheumy and
this person was HIS suggestion, and 4) I don't want to wait to address the
increased pain until I am unable to function!
My next appt is on a Friday, when I take my MTX in the evening. I should be
in much more pain at that time. I am also having my records from my initial
diagnosis at the Cleveland Clinc sent to Dr. Kantor. I almost want to skip
my MTX for the next 4 weeks to prove to him that, yes, I do have RA. I
won't do that because I have too much to do in the next month to be out of
commission.
Am I being a big, fat whiner about this?

MM, I don't think you're being a big, fat whiner about this, but I would give
it another appointment or two. In all honesty, I didn't think that much of
my current RD on the first visit. He was OK, but that was about it. he's
turned out to be a real gem, though and I've actually picked up bits and
pieces along the way about problem patients and why he seemed dubious about
things at first.
I think it's a good idea to get your records sent. Reading more about why
you were put on mtx to begin with will be helpful for both of you. BTW, I
was initially diagnosed with RA and had that changed to PA 12 years later.
I'd experienced some doubts from interim RDs about stuff, much of which made
more sense when my diagnosis changed to PA.
Get those records sent and all the new bloodwork drawn and see how he
responds to you on the next visit. If he doesn't impress you more in the
next visit or two, you can try someone else.

Give it a little time, honey. My wonderful RD was not so wonderful at first,
but now I wouldn't change him! It was almost as though HIS blood tests had
to prove what the RD back in Maryland had found. Once he found it, he was as
good as gold.

Mary Margaret,
No you are not a big whiner. I can understand that one all to well as most
of us can. The frustration is overwhelming at times.
I sure hope you can find out what is what and get it fixed as soon as
possible so that you are doing better pain wise. Take care.
