I have been having bad knee problems for a number of years, slowly
worsening.
Anyway, x-rays + MRI reveal arthritic changes (more inflammatory than osteo
wear and tear) as well as torn meniscus cartilege.
I will probably need scope "clean out" surgery. I know this surgery is
excellent for the cartilege problem but I suspect much of my pain is the
arthritis (but we don't really know).
Any thoughts? Can surgery be helpful for arthritis too?
Eventually I might be a candidate for TKR. (I am a 61 yr. old male)

MB,
I am 41 now and had my knee scoped two summers ago after months of great
pain. The surgeon said it was obvious arthritic wear that had caused the
problems. I had two tears. Anyhow, the surgery did help and seems to have
worked. I know I am young for this and I know it will likely expedite future
surgery, but I can do most things now without much pain. I have PA and have
some pain all the time.
