Hi,

I have JRA and i have stopped taking my medicines after having some
side effects.
I took Methotrexate, Sazo and a pain killer when the treatment was
started and the dosage was gradually reduced to 1 sazo a day.
Now since i have not been taking sazo for two years i'm worried if my
JRA is increasing.
My back aches everyday as usual but i'm not sure if the JRA is
increasing or normal and i stopped it without the doctor's consent.
If i start taking Sazo now the side effects will worsen again.
Someone plaease help me.

Lets me get this right.  You don't trust your own doctor, but you are
willing to ask for advice from a bunch of strangers on the internet?

Find a new doctor if you need to, but see a doctor.

Talk to your doctor or get a second opinion!!!

get thee to a doctor!  Find a new one if you must.  There are other treatment
options out there and a decent doctor will help you find the best treatment
with few, if any, side effects for you personally.  Do it now, before you
suffer irreparable joint damage.

We're here for support, a shoulder to lean on, a place to ask for prayers.
And a few will relate their experiences from stopping a medication.

But we are NOT doctors.  We cannot diagnose or treat a disease.

And anyone who takes medical advice from a total on-line stranger is a fool.

What may work for some of use may not work for anyone else.
That is why doctors sometime switch arthritis drugs on a patient.
They have to discover just the right one that will work for that individual.

I'm just asking for some suggestions...Of couse i wouldnt totally
depend on internet.

My doctor is one of the best rheumatologists in my city, but he doesnt
seem to care about the side effects.
He neither changed my drugs nor the dosage.
But the other doctor who treated the side effect was too shocked, when
i said i was taking sazo so long.
He told me i could take some other tablet.
I really dont know what to do...

There was a time when I saw one of the "top" rheumatologists in the US.  His
attitude, however, was, "just trust me, I'm the doctor" and "don't worry
about your pain, your labwork says your disease isn't active."  I finally
dumped him, which was difficult as he'd been my dad's RD, respected and
adored by my dad, for almost 20 years at the time.  Long story about how I
choose the new one, but he picked up on some stuff that helped me on the very
first visit.  No national rep but he was a much better doctor for me
personally - until he retired.  It's important to find the best
doctor-patient fit for YOU, personally.

As for the sazo, I see that is a brand name for sulfasalazine.  Side effects
from this med aren't uncommon - one place to read more about it is
http://www.rheumatology.org/public/factsheets/sulfasalazine.asp  I actually
had one that isn't listed, my ears rang annoyingly when I was on it.

You need to find an RD who will pay more attention to how YOU, personally,
are doing on a medication.  The side effects you suffer are a part of your
overall health and must be considered.  My RD always discusses any side
efects I'm having and asks for my input on whether to stay with a med or
change it if I'm having problems from it.  You need a doctor like that - one
that treats you with full concern for *you*.

The easy thing to do is ask family doctor to get intouch with your RD about
it.   Stop taking the sulfasalizine and ask your RD for something else.
The next step is to get another RD with a transfer of all documented
information.

Thanks a lot for the support.
The biggest joke is that my father is a doctor (M.D.).
Anyways i'll try to change my rheumatologist.
Thank you everyone.
