My dil means well and just wants to help if she can and like most people
that do not know a thing about arthritis,,, she sends me stuff,,,
information she thinks might help my arthritis.  Welll, she sent me this big
long article about hyaluronic acid taken in pill form that is suppose to
help OA/and/or/Ra.  It says that I should take 100mg pills twice a day and
it costs about 20.00/month.   I will be very honest and say that I know a
little about people taking it by shot in a joint which can work for a few
months for some people that are not bone on bone.    Any thoughts about the
pill form would be appreciated.

RE: Notification of Nutritional Support Statements

Dear Sir or Madam: I hereby notify the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of
the use of statements of nutritional support in the labeling of, Hyaluronic
Acid a dietary supplement. Source Naturals@ is the manufacturer of
Hyaluronic Acid. (1) (2) (3) (4) Statements being made in the labeling of
Hvaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid plays an integral role in maintaining and
regulating moisture within the tissues and facilitates the transport of
nutrients into the cells and the removal of metabolic waste. It is found in
all of the body's tissues, with the highest concentrations located in the
extracellular matrix of the skin and the synovial fluid that bathes the
joints and cartilage. 0ptirn;m levels of hyaluronic acid are essential for
the health of the joints and cartilage. Injuv provides the only hyaluronic
acid that has undergone a natural enzyme cleaving technique for greater
absorption. To the best of my knowledge, and based upon information and
belief present at the time of the execution of this notice, I certify that
the above information is accurate and complete. Source Naturals possesses
substantiation that the statements are truthful and not misleading.

My thoughts Harv.

Variously described as :
Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate; more specifically, it is a
polysaccharide
and an aminoglycan.

I reckon that if it is passed thro the digestive tract it will, like
all other foods, be broken down into its simplest component parts. In
this case it would be monosaccharides and amino acids. The body then
builds these up again into whatever proteins and carbohydrate
containing substances it requires.

Therefore, at best, when eaten it would be a nutrient containing the
constituents of hyaluronic acid, which would be digested and then used
as required. If ones body cannot synthesise its own hyaluronic acid in
the correct quantities, the only way to get additional amounts would
be to have it injected approriately - I think.

Thanks Peter,,,  I was leaning that way but I just had to check to have an
answer to good intentions.   I do not think it is a good idea to dampen that
and it should be encouraged.

It works for me.  I spend good money on it, and I will continuee doing
so.  You should try before you conclude anything.  Two months is a
good trial.  I take 100mg, not even every day.  The "digestion" post
is off the mark.  I recomend Solaray brand, quality is an issue with
this stuff.
