Yes,,,, several people have said here how pleased they are with the outcome
even if they have to wear a rounded sole on their shoe.

my dad had it done, though his ankle damage was due to trauma from a bicycle
mishap, not RA. He had RA though, dating make to the relative dark ages of
treatment. The surgery gave him a lot of relief and made walking much
easier. In fact, in his case, it led to him having surgeries on his RA
managled toes for stuff that hadn't been that much of a bother when his ankle
kept him from walking! They've actually refined the fusion techniques since
he did it over 15 years ago and the process is easier on the patient these
days.

Yep, I had my left ankle fused at age 16. I don't advise getting it
done that young. ;-)
I also got my right ankle replaced at age 35 or so. Have you looked
into that possibility? Replacement is MUCH better than fusion if your medical
situation allows it as a possibility. And if it doesn't work out then you can
always still get fusion.

I have been very busy lately and have not been reading the list.
I have had both of my ankles fused. Both back in the late
90's. There have been lots of advances since that time.
I have worn extra depth shoes with rocker soles ever since
my surgeries. In 2000 I had a stress fracture above my left
ankle and a short time later had another close to the first.
My Orthopedic Surgeon decided enough was enough and ordered
me into braces on both of my shoes. There was great concern
I would continue to have fractures, which would continue to
weaken my leg bones and lead to further problems. I also
happen to have bilateral TKR's and a left hip replacement.
This may never happen to you. It was worth having it done to
relieve the extreme pain ever time I took a step.
Good luck with your surgery.
