Ugh!  I've had bronchitis and a sinus infection for about 10 days.  Have
been on three different antibiotics during that time and the lungs are
finally starting to clear from the bottom up.  Still have a lot of mid-lung
congestion.  Using a nebulizer several times a day and a codeine cough med.
at night.  The problem is that I'm now on week two with no Enbrel or
Methotrexate.  And if the lungs don't clear it may be three weeks before I
can get back to my meds.  Things are getting a little achy and by next week
they should be in full blown flare.  Blah!!!

I know you all can't help ... just wanted to whine to people who understand.

Hey, sometimes all we can do is listen.  But its nice to have folks who will
listen and understand and care.

Rest as best you can till it all sorts out.  Most gentle group hugs on the
way.

Jean, I just saw this since Jo posted to you.
I sure hope you get to feeling better soon and that something soon works out
for you. You take care and I hope you heal quickly and can take something to
help with the pain.

Don't let them take you off the antibiotics too soon Jean.  Sometimes on
enbrel it takes longer to completely get rid of the infection and so a
string of stopping, starting, infection, none etc starts.  Make sure they
are aggressive with it.

And otherwise just to know we are listening - sorry can't share in the wine,
the whine is understood and is deserving and I have some nice cheese in the
fridge (will eat it for lunch tomorrow and think of you.

Rest and try to get better quickly.  Thinking of you.

Hi Jean,    I can only tell you what I would do to stay out of a full blown
flare because of loss of DMARD and Anti-TNF  because that is dangerous and
does damage too.
I would take the Enbrel and not take the Methx.    A little pred. would
not hurt things either.    Just my opinion mostly good for me.

Hey Harv,

As per my family doc ... who is treating the bronchitis ... I called my
Rheumatologist and told him what's happening and he said absolutely no
Enbrel until the family doc says the infection is gone.  Trust me, I wanted
to do my Enbrel injection SO bad this week but I guess I better listen to
what he has to say and not do it.  :o(

But I appreciate the input!!!  :o}

Definitely listen to him.  Enbrel and any infection - viral or bacterial -
are deadly combinations.  Make sure all signs of the infection are gone

Thanks Jean - glad to hear you have an on top of it doc.  I also know how
tempting it is to take something when you are hurting - I do emphathize.

That a girl,,,,,  Now while talking to the RD,,, did you ask him/her what
were you going to do if you get into a full flare....?
Harv
Jean - 30 Sep 2007 02:58 GMT
Nope Harv, I didn't.  Never even thought about it.  DUH!!!  LOL!  That may
be a phone call for this week.

Have to go back to the family doc Monday so he can listen to my lungs again
and I know he's not going to be happy.  I'm still coughing and wheezing but
it IS better.  (Wishful thinking?)  Haven't had a fever in quite a few days
though so that's good.  Fingers crossed!!!

if you could get on  pred it might help clear the lungs and help with the
arthritis pain for now anyways.

Everyone if different, but I'd be on some prednisone at this point, both to
help clear my lungs and to  help prevent a flare.  Can't hurt to ask the doc
on Monday.

((((((((((((jean)))))))))))))))))  that sounds truly miserable and it can't
help to know that you still have a way to go.  Any chance you can get to a
steamroom somewhere?  I really miss the one I used to access to.  I was
wonderful at such times for helping to get that gunk out of there sooner
rather than alter.

hmmmmmmm, we have some jalepeno havarti in the freezer.  Perhaps that would
be the idel cheese to clear you sinuses!

Dear Jean;

Yuck!!! Hope the doc gives you some good news today.

I have a decent brie in the fridge. A local company makes a horseradish
Monterey Jack which sounds like it may be a nice accompaniment to the
Jalapeno Havarti....How would you like those shipped?

Are they giving you Guiafenisin (Robitussin)? My ENT really pushes it for
people with sinus problems to help everything drain (he has also banned
antihistamines unless I am having a systemic allergic reaction because they
dry secretions too much and prevent draining). Additionally, I found
guiafenisin helps make the coughing more poductive, and thus less raspy and
painful - definite comfort care.

Went back to the doc today and my blood count is back to normal.  Yippee!!
The cough is still there but much improved.  He gave me an Advair inhaler to
use once a day and still take a tsp. of the codeine cough med. at night.
And I got the go ahead to re-start the Enbrel and Methotrexate this week.
Yay!!!!  :o)

Thank you all for listening, advising, and offering cheese for my whine.
It's so nice to have a place to come and grumble when the need arises.  You
all are greatly appreciated.
