I posted last week that I had been having off and on stomach pain for
months, thinking it may have been caused by methotrexate. I went to a
Gastro. Dr. last Thursday and he said I should probably have a endoscope to
see what was going on in my stomach since I was on several meds that can
cause stomach problems. He doubted that it would be the methotrexate,
thought it was more likely the Actenol or Celebrex. He said if he found
scarring, he might advise stopping one of those meds. I had the endoscope
yesterday. Luckily, he said there was no scarring so I can stay on the same
meds but to also take one prevesid daily. During the procedure he stretched
and enlarged my esophagus and I have a horrible sore throat which is
supposed to get better in a few days. He thought that my narrow esophagus
might be causing some of my stomach problems also.
Thanks for all the input with my original question about stomach pain and
methotrexate. I'm sure glad the methotrexate isn't causing any problems
since it has helped keep my RA under control and for that I'm VERY grateful.

Here is a trick Mary. Since he dialated drink LOTS of water with your meals, helps move the food
down and into the stomach better. The more the better too.
I have had 4 dialations due to my achalasia (narrowing of the esophagus and opening to the stomach)
and low motility or movement of the esophagus. so that helps immensely. Another trick is CHEW gum
freq.
Take that medication on an empty tummy in the am then eat. Lots of water.
HOpe it all works out but take your time, small bites and chew chew chew.
good luck

I had to stop Actenol. It tore up my stomach. It's now 1 of the 2 drugs I
stay away from (the other is any statins).

My father had to have that stretching done several times. He truly disliked
doing it, but really appreciated the results. So hang in there and may it
heal quickly and you feel much better!

I do hope this has helped with your problems.
I've had at least a few dozen endoscopies with esophageal dilation. Only
once did I have a noticeable sore throat after it was done. Must remember
next month to tell my gastro doc how much I appreciate that.
Only sore throat was from an emergency procedure done by a different doctor
when I blocked over a weekend.
Could be worse. Grandpa used to have it done with no anesthetic.
