I was driving home from church meetings last night when a pickup truck with
a cab tore out of a parking lot and sideswiped me. It was a good thing I've
been driving all these years because otherwise he'd have hit my drivers'
door square on. I could see him coming and not slowing so I blew my horn,
slowed my speed, and started pulling off to the right of the highway. I
couldn't go too far right because there was a deep (3' at least) ditch on
that side. I did get far enough over though, that his right front just
scraped the side of my car and took off my sideview mirror. He never even
slowed, just kept right on flying down the road. I am unhurt, it just shook
me up for a little while. I, of course, called the police and filed a report
at the scene before driving the rest of the way home. Unfortunately, my
deductible is $250. I would be surprised if the damage comes to that much
so, other than the rental car, my insurance company won't be out by much.

It's always something, isn't it?

Scary thing to have happen but thank God it turned out like it did.
Good work

DeeTee, it just malkes me so mad when someone does something like that.  The
last time I had an accident, I backed into the side of a van and had to go
looking for who it belonged to.  I just couldn't drive off and leave it.
Wish the person who hit you had felt that way.  So glad you were just shook
up instead of being physically hurt.

As long as you were not hurt, that's all that matters. Cars can be
fixed. I know it's annoying. I will say extra prayers that they will
catch the person who hit you.

ohhh . . . thank goodness you are an experienced driver!  sounds like it
might have been so much worse otherwise.  i'm so glad you were not hurt, but
shook up isn't fun, either.  was not something you needed though, huh!?
(((((((((((((((((((((deetee))))))))))))))))))  enough already.  now, it's
time for things to go more pleasantly and easily for you--and i do insist!
i hope they catch that guy before he really does badly injure somebody else!

(((((((DeeTee)))))))  Thank you for being an attentive driver!  We want you
around a while longer.  Boo, hiss to the other driver.  Those lessons in
church haven't taken well for him.

A good job of redoing the finish on your door may add up though.  And those
rearview mirrors can cost a bit to replace if you have interior controls.
May get something back for all those premiums you've paid out.

When my almost ex backed MY car into MY truck the insurance company paid...
but they also increased our premiums for the next three years.  Oddly, the
increase will come to almost the same amount as the claim???  :-(  And when
a bunch shingles were blown off the roof, my insurance agent said it would
not be wise to make a claim since my premiums would increase.  Sometimes ya
just gotta wonder what the heck insurance is for???  Maybe just for
humongous catastrophes.....

Good luck with the repairs and I'm sure glad it wasn't worse- and that you
are not injured!  Vehicles can be repaired or replaced, but you are
precious.

Insurance is so the insurance companies make money - they are NOT to protect
you. However, there are many laws requiring you to have it. Unfortunately
there are so many frauds in this world that those of us who worked hard,
paid on time and regularly are screwed over and over again by the very
people who supposedly have our interests at heart. They have had to become
suspicious of every single claim. Fortunately we have been insured by the
same auto insurance company for 19 years and they always jump through hoops
to make things easy for us....as long as it's easy for them. LOL For
instance, I can't get the rental car until my car is actually in the shop
and I can't put it in the shop until after the adjuster sees it and the
adjuster won't see it until next Thursday. So, although they'll pay for 30
days of a rental car, I have to wait 8 days from the accident before I get
it. LOL

Hey, who got me started on this?

exactly.  unfortunately, back in the very early '60s (i think it was), a
well-known insurance company used tv ads that indicated very minor home
damage caused by carelessness resulted in insurance company restoration to
pristine condition (and allowed the homeowner to select a change of color or
materials used to occur at the time at the time of repairs--with just a
small adjustment for the materials differential), 100% covered.  so, a
rampant fraudulent abuse of homeowners policies ensued--ie., people who
didn't like their old kitchen countertops deliberately put hot cast iron
skillets on their countertops to have them replaced; if they hated their
kitchen floor--they dropped the hot skillet on the floor, etc. . . .  with
the sudden bolting in the numbers of minor insurance claims, it didn't take
long for the insurance companies to catch onto what was occurring, though it
was hard to prove.  (the same kind of thing began to happen with vehicles
that were insured, to get new paint jobs or whatever.)  that's when
insurance rates and suspicion began to soar.  but it really was originally
caused by that ill-advised advertizing campaign, which appealed to the
latent larceny streak (getting something for free or for next to nothing) in
many people.   uhohhhh, you got me started.LOL

over the years i've found, no matter what insurance company i had, that when
my vehicle was no longer drivable that claim was promptly handled, that very
day or the next day.  minor damage always took longer.  it's like there is
an unspoken claim adjuster que based upon drivability.
