I had the tube taken out of my arm yesterday and today, I saw the
oncologist. I'm doing very well. The chemo is finished and I don't have to
go to them again for three whole months. Yipeee!
On the other hand, my PCP has found that I am having blood pressure and
blood sugar issues. Sigh. I am taking both three times a day and the results
are not too good. It looks as though they may be adding a blood pressure
medication to my cocktail and possibly a diagnosis of diabetes. I have been
trying to be good to get the numbers down so that diet alone will suffice.
No luck so far. My fasting blood sugar readings have been 116ish and higher.
I may get away with just pre-diabetes, but my doctors are pretty aggressive
about disease so we'll have to wait until next week when she sees the
results of the 3X day monitoring.
I guess it never really ends, does it?

Seems they could give you good news and hold off on the bad for a while.
Yeah, I know it doesn't work that way.
But it does seem like you have very good reason for your BP to be up. I'm
touchy about that one myself though. Mine isn't terrible high, usually
right on 140/90 but the least little thing makes it shoot higher, so I'm on
the med.
Keep working on the diet with the blood sugar numbers. The more you can
control that with diet and exercise the better anyway. If you need meds to
help, fine.
Glad the tube is gone. Its hard to have to look at it all the time and
still feel light and free and positive and all the good things that matter.

Oh Dee Tee,,, I just hate to say this. Please do not be too hasty about
starting medicine especially the kind you can not stop once they are
started. High blood pressure is serious,,, of coarse its all about how
high. If your sugar reading is an example of what is taking place,,,, 116
is not that bad. Diet,,, and no sweets and starches and lets see what
takes place later.
Your body has been through a big shock. Lets give it a chance to
settle down. No getting over heated about anything. No getting over
tired. Save the arguments until later. Cool out,,,, smooth out,,,,
rest,,, please....

LOL I'm taking my blood pressure and my blood sugar three times a day. I
don't think she'll do anything drastic about the sugar right away, but she
has already said that if the pressures don't come down she wants to add
something to the mix to get them down. They're pretty high....143/100. So
that really does need to be addressed. We stopped the Lisinopril because I
was coughing so much. She doubled my Atenolol in hopes that would keep me
down where I was. However, it's not working so there will be a substitute
for the Lisinopril coming (when I was on it, my pressures were 128/78,
etc.). The blood sugar may respond to diet, but I am still having my 8
ounces of Pepsi with breakfast. I'll be dead before that goes away. The rest
of it is negotiable. :-P

Yay, DeeTee!!! So glad you got to have the tube removed and that the
chemo is over. May you continue to do well in that regard for a very
very good long time!!!
116 really isn't that bad. In fact, I thought it had to be over 120 to
be considered high? Shoot, 116 is great and many would love to have
numbers like that!!! I think I would avoid meds for the blood sugar, at
least for now. Just watch the carbs intake and hopefully you will do
well. As far as the pepsi goes, any chance you could slowly switch
over to diet pepsi? When I went from coke to diet coke, I started out
mixing a little diet coke with the regular coke and gradually increased
how much diet coke I mixed in until I had made the switch completely.
It does take a bit of getting used to, but it would still allow you your
pop but the diet version would be a whole lot better on your blood
sugars. Maybe get involved in a group diabetes education thing to learn
how to make changes that aren't that hard to do. Would be worth it if
you could avoid the medications.
Best of luck to you!!!

heehee, my first thought was that they don't know what a dangerous thing it
is to cut DeeTee loose! And of course, I am overjoyed and delighted that you
are free for a while and I'm keeping the prayers coming for you to stay
cancer-free.

Hopefully, that's all a part of your body having been through so much trauma
over the past months. Take good care of yourself and as you work back into
health, perhaps you can get rid of any extra pills they want you on for now.

****breathe, breathe, breathe. sweetie, for your blood pressure--breathe
in to a count of 4; hold breath to a count of 7; release breath to a count
of 8. do that 4 times in a row, for a total of 1 min. 15 seconds. do that
4 times a day for a total of 5 minutes per day, for all 4 times inclusive.
that should help lower your blood pressure. mine was like 185/115 when
butch was so ill. i'm now down to 117/76 on a regular basis, with no meds
(well, except for the bp spikes because of broken bones and that injury
pain). that's the only thing i did to get my bp back down. it really can
help.
I guess it never really ends, does it?
***(((((((((((((((((deetee)))))))))))))))) it can and will get better. i
