vickie b. - 27 Aug 2007 19:57 GMT Dear Folks,
I'm sure that some of you feel that you've been present at my children's growing up. <g>
But two weeks ago, my daughter and I flew to Salt Lake City and my son took us on to Soda Springs, Idaho where he worked this summer. (This was my daughter's first airplane ride. She loved it.) For the three days that I was there, I had strangers stopping me with, "You're Tymon's mom, he's such a wonderful kid!) We drove back home. And that was wonderful. We went through the canyon lands in Utah and Colorado.
Home for six days. My son was cleared by his surgeon (you might remember that he had sinus surgery in May.) It was hectic.
Then off to college. My husband did get the long weekend off! Yippee! (He has worked for a minimum for ten hours since 6-4 and every day) This year my son moved into a house with three guy friends. So we had more to take and do there. It is a nice situation for him and it will last for his last two years! Half way there! (and as of this summer, his job is guaranteed upon graduation.)
But I look forward and realize that I'm losing my daughter within the year! She is going to Oregon for art school which goes twelve monthes a year! Yikes!
And me, I joined a water aerobics class for arthritics and it has really helped!
Thanks for listening.

I suspect you knew well before he did. And it sounds like you already like her.
It took me a little while to learn to like and then love my son-in-law. But after a year when he'd had the same job for a year, and after he started hugging us we gave in. By the time they got married we already considered him a son.

vickie b. - 29 Aug 2007 00:31 GMT Kate,
It was like that with me and my MNL. I considered her "Mom" and she considered me a daughter.

Donna G. - 30 Aug 2007 06:01 GMT Vickie,
So glad to hear you're enjoying the water aerobics classes!!! Good for you!
Yep, it's hard to believe how quickly these kids grow up and go off on their own, but you should be so proud that you raised them in a way that they CAN go out on their owns and make lives for themselves.
You'll still always be thier mom and they still will always need you and turn to you for advice!!!
Enjoy this new demension in your life and relish what fine young adults your kids have become!!!
hugs,

Donna G. - 30 Aug 2007 06:04 GMT Our family is sooooo blessed. Every one of my brothers wives are truly like sisters to me and even their families are wonderful parts of our family. In fact, when I was in the hospital after my stroke, several of my in-laws families sent cards and flowers. How sweet!!! I feel so blessed to have so many extra "sisters" to discuss things with and have fun with when we do family get togethers!!! It's a ball! Feel the same about my brother-in-law as well. He is just like having another brother to tease and talk with. I know not all families are this lucky in regard to in-laws, so I cherish these relationships all that much more!!!

sweetpickleNO@SPAMknology.net - 31 Aug 2007 01:50 GMT Donna, I'm also blessed as you are. Just don't have as many as you do. Only two children in my family and in my DIL's family, and 3 in my SIL's family. All of my family is always invited to anything happening in the others' families and we always have loads of fun together. Ain't it wonderful! Gwen

Nann Bell - 31 Aug 2007 04:02 GMT I was thinking this must be the son who had the sinus surgery. It's great that he is doing so well. Hee deserves it after that awful time hehad last year. Congratulations to you, raising 2 children who are doing so well. Just watch it though - water aerobics might be the start of many interests that will fill the time left by the change in motherly duties.
