I have a question about some liver function numbers. I hope someone
can help. I have severe osteoarthritis and have had to take a lot of
pain meds. since my hip replacements 1 1/2 yrs ago my liver numbers
have consistently come down no doubt due to the decrease in the
meds. The only number that is not in the proper range is SGPT--41 with
the normal range being 11-40. I am not very concerned. My dr, however,
is always pressing for more bloodwork, ultrasounds, and return visits.
I just want to get on with my life. Can anyone offer some information?
thanks.

Hi,,, Welcome to ASA. I can only tell you that the last two times my
liver enzyme reading were high,,, I took milkthistle to bring it back in
line. In order to do this safely, a person must be pretty sure what is
causing the raise in readings. Travel at your own risk.

Without knowing your medical history noone here can say what you should
do, except that these are things you absolutely must be asking your
doctor!!! This value is not used in isolation, so you need to get the
full story of what is concering your doctor FROM your doctor.

That "someone" would be your doctor. And no one in the group is a doctor.

No one here has your complete medical history. We don't know your age,
gender, past medical problems other than OA and THR, alcohol use, etc. etc.
etc
That's a difficult question to answer even for a doctor who does have that
information. Perhaps that's why he keeps pressing for more tests. If
you're unhappy with him, find another doctor.
