Does anyone in Canada have any info on how likely it is to get a DR.
to prescribe "pot" as an alternative to other pain meds?
I have spinal stenosis, also Hep C with cihrrosis...(Hemophiliace).

I also was diagnosed with sleep apnea earlier this year..Mild, average
of 22 times an hour I stop breathing...but when my brother gave me a
few "brownies" I found my comfort level went up, and also I felt more
rested when I did finally get out of bed in the morning...Most
mornings I'm up by 3 AM.

I'm on a disability pension because of the Hep C and I don't like
taking the narcotic pain meds. I've tried tons of them...percocet,
fentanyl patch, tramadol, Tylenol 3's, etc.........

I don't want to buy pot off the street if I can help it........I can't
afford it anyway.
I'm a 53 year old male, married, with 3 kids..22, 20. 18. For my
personal reasons I don't want my kids knowing I'm doing pot for
pain...They are great kids and none of them have had any trouble with
substance abuse.

I wouldn't smoke it, but making Cana-butter and cooking it into
brownies works very well for me.

Anyway, I"m a little shy about broaching this subject with my Dr.
Does anyone have any experience with similar medical conditions that
they could inform me about?

Thanks.

I think that would depend on your doctor.  If you have a good relationship
with him and feel comfortable talking to him try it.  It seems to me that he
is already familiar with your pain pattern and might be open.

the big problem is still getting it.  I did get some from my son at one
point (it was a comedy of errors - he hadn't ever purchased it himself but
had friends - he is 24.  It had to be pure since I have allergies to certain
painkillers and we wanted to make sure it was safe.  Unfortunately it did
not turn out to work on the neurological pain I had - I did make it into
brownies - and I was also allergic to it - had a hayfever type reaction.)
It is expensive off the street and you can't always be guaranteed it is pure
unless you know the grower.

Try that doctor and maybe you can get it through health canada.  Apparently
according to the newspapers it isn't as strong as on the street - that would
certainly have been in favor for me.  There are places on the web that you
can look up and ask others taking it in Canada - they might be able to give
you more help than this group.  We don't have a lot of Canadians on this
group and those that we do are not to my knowledge taking pot as a
painkiller.

Good luck - I know it works well for some people.  Be open with your doctor
no matter what though.  He should know in case of other interactions.

Thanks Kelly: I'll give it some serious thought. I just have a bit of
reluctancy talking to my Dr. I don't know where he stands on the
issue, and I would hate to have him put me in a box as a potential
"drug" user....I'm also in line for the Federal Governments
compensation program for Hep C infected persons via the bad blood of
the Red Cross.

I would hate to jeopardize that.  He once said to me after a diagnosis
of stenosis......."You're between a rock and a hard place, there is
not much I can do for you".............I don't like this feeling of
being between a rock and a hard place....But I've got to keep sucking
it up, and going one day at a time...

Thanks again, and all the best.

Paul..

Wow, the Canadian Government can't even grow pot properly. A lot of
people returned the medicinal Pot for a refund...Now thats bad.
