Hi, Everyone;
Thank you all for the kind words and support. It really helped while I
was going through the hardest part a few days ago.
Mom is now in a hospice center as an inpatient. She wanted this place
because it has private rooms. Problem is, they are not licensed for
residential care, only acute care. That means they only can have
patients who have complicating factors, like pain which isn't
controlled, or controlled only with constant tweaking, nausea issues,
etc. When she stabilizes, we'll have to find another place for her,
which will be complicated by the fact that she is using a pain pump. I
have an appointment today to tour and submit an application to the
best nursing home in the state, which also happens to be a Jewish one.
They have a waiting list, so its not a sure thing.
Mom had a rough first evening there Tuesday night, but yesterday
seemed much better.
I'm doing better than earlier in the week, too, though yesterday was a
rough one traveling around trying to get some special equipment mom
wanted. It was my second 100+ mile day while here. Had a couple of 80
mile days, too. The Echo's great gas mileage is a neat treat, compared
to my wagon. Too bad Toyota stopped making it.
A lot to still do in my three days left (and only two are business
days). Want to screen some home health care agencies, and see if there
are other good nursing homes. If I can do the legwork while I'm here
(and my days 'free') that will be stuff my sister won't have to do as
she works full time. How she has managed these 18 months I have no
idea!

hi, kid,
keep hanging in there, sweetie. the prayers and positive energies continue.
is that nursing home affiliated with beth israel hospital in denver? my
college roomie, ca. 1968, was an RN in beth israel while we were both
attending school. that's kinda why i asked. and too, beth israel was a very
good hospital, very patient and family oriented, back then.
all that legwork you're doing is waaaaay kind and thoughtful of you. seems
like your sister will be very relieved and grateful not to have all that to
come home to. your sister probably managed the same way all of us do, one
foot in front of the other--some days, good; some days, not as good.
patients can be in a hospice house, leave because they've improved, and
return to the same hospice house if/when the situation changes. just so you
know that is also an option, but you probably already know that.
thinking of you and your family,
kate
