Well, it's off for the dreaded thyroid biopsies tomorrow morning.
I really am not looking forward to this as they said they wanted to
obtain about 10 tissue samples! Ugggggh.........already makes my neck
hurt just thinking about it.
So, wish me luck and pray that this all turns out well, as I am really
getting tired of medical procedures!!!
Hugs,
Donna

Donna-
You have my prayers- both for the procedure to not be too awful and for a
good outcome. Hang tough, girl! You CAN dot it- I admire what a fighter
you are and how you maintain such a good attitude thru all your trials.
You're a very special lady.

Just be grateful/happy/thankful that you don't have a prostate and the
doctor doesn't want eight samples.....from each lobe. <g>

Thanks everyone for all of your prayers and encouragement.
Man o man, all I can say is am I ever glad that is over with!!!
Now I just have to pray that they got what they needed so they won't
have to call me back to do it all over again.
Turned out they did what they call 3 biopsies, but each biopsy required
6 tissue samples!
Ouch!!!
My neck is so darn bruised and sore from all of those 18 passes of the
needle. And, of course, it never can go easy now can it!
LOL....they were able to do the first 12 needle passes without too much
trouble, but the last set they they had to do, the area they wanted to
get at was so close to my trachea that they had a rough time of it and
then started talking about using a spinal needle to get at the area as
the spinal needles were longer and the area they wanted to get at was
very deep and at an awkward angle.
Yikes!!!
I needed them to stop twice and give me a break as it got a bit painful
and I just needed a break to keep my composure.
A few tears did find their way out, but for the most part I was able to
keep it together. They said I did really well, as they usually have
patients screaming and a few have passed out! Sheesh glad they didn't
tell me that before hand, or I would have been out of there.
They apologized for how long it all took and how kind of rough they
ended up getting at the end when they were after the really deep area
that was so close to the trachea.
They handed me a glass of water and two tylenol at the end and two ice
packs. Told me to expect a bit more swelling and bruising than usual
due to all the trouble they had.
Took the bandages off when I got home and was quite shocked at how
bruised it really was. Looks like someone jumped up and down on my
neck! Lol....between those bruises and all of the bruises up and down
my arms from my most recent hospital stay, it really looks like someone
worked me over good!
In any case, they said they should have results by about wednesday of
next week and will know then if they got what they needed or if I will
have to come back for another round. Ugggggh!
Am exhausted and think I will go lay down for a bit!
Thanks again, everyone, for all of your prayers and encouragement, they
definitely do help!!!
Hugs,
Donna

Another round are they nuts! Did they say whether they were going to
sedate you and send someone to pick you up to do that round? If I could do
cartoon drawings there is a good show there!
Glad it is over - rest! And you might need something stronger than a
tylenol.

what a miserable experience. they should have sedated you, in my
opinion. i'm sorry it was so difficult. :-(

Donna, maybe you had follow Duckie's example. Tell them it is your body and
they do it your way or
not at all, and you will require sedation. Really hope that they have
everything they need and can give you a good report.

Yep, it was a lot more miserable than I could have ever imagined and my
night was a very long night too,
You know, originally they had given me two choices, the outpatient
procedure that was supposed to be "easier" or for them to put me out and
do a small surgical incision to get the samples. I almost now wish I
would have chosed the second route as I can't imagine it being any more
painful than what went on yesterday!
Ugggggh, I am just praying big time that they got what they needed and I
won't even have to think about going back down that road!
Oh well, am feeling much better today. Just a heavy achiness left now,
so much more tolerable.
Whew, who comes up with these torturous tests anyway??? LOL!

Your original posts were in that group I accidently deleted and had to read
on google - and we know what a hassle replying via google can be! But let me
jump in belatedly to add my own wishes for a quick recovery and for more
detailed info about the tests before sedation decisions in the future! And
may they have all they need to run the necessary tests and have answers for
you next week.

Whew!!! What an ordeal they put you through. You did very well not to
stress out and start screaming at them. I sure hope they found what
they needed and you don't ever have to face that again. It seems they
could have given you some sort of light sedation though.
