How sweet of you to ask! I'm doing fine- if very, very impatient to get back
to my surgeon for my two month post-surgery appt. which is 7/16.  I am
hoping and praying he'll let me start some weight bearing after this appt.
After my surgery he said I'd have a 4-6 month recuperation and I'm down 2
months now.   I have a HUGE case of cabin fever- let me outta this house!!!

I didn't say anything before this, but I separated from my husband three
weeks after surgery.  The past five weeks have been a challenge, but I'm
finding if I plan every little thing in great detail in advance and pace
myself I can do most of the things I need.  My dear friend helps with the
rest- altho she has her own set of challenges with severe lupus and mini
black-out seizures.  A big challenge for me was getting food/meals to the
table or my recliner.  I learned to put the food in a covered container(s)
and carry it in the pouch I made for my walker or in a WalMart bag with the
handles over my wrist.  I have managed to vacuum and sweep and mop and take
care of my four dogs and cat.  Dear old Missy (13 y.o. Golden Retriever) has
learned to 'get that for mommy".  If I drop something she'll pick it up and
give it to me.  Problem is... now I cannot set anything on the floor even if
I *want* it on the floor!   LOL

Thanks for asking!  I hope Kiki checks in, too.  And I'm still thinking or
you every day and praying for your progress and improving health.

Leslie, I'm amazed at all you are doing while recovering from your surgery.
So sorry about your marital problems, but pray things will work out the very
best for you.  Seems to me it was months before I was doing all you are
doing.  Do be careful to follow all restrictions.  I've dislocated my
replaced hip four times since I had it done in June 2000; not fun.  My best
to you.

Gwen, I've wanted to ask you about those dislocations- OUCH!   I'm so sorry
you had to go thru that torture.  What type of activity or movement did you
make to cause it to happen?  Did you have any warning- like did you feel a
certain pressure or pulling or anything?   I'd hate to be home alone and
have a problem- and my dogs would not take kindly to paramedics coming in
and taking me away!  I know I have pushed the limits in caring for myself,
but so far so good.  I'm very careful with my post-op precautions--  I keep
them uppermost in my mind when I do anything.

Leslie, 3 months after the replacement I was sitting in a recliner and
reached over to the front and right to pet a little dog.  A year later I was
sitting in a straight chair in the Prayer Room at church and reached to the
front and slightly to the right to get something out of my purse on the
floor.  A year later I saw a dead roach in my computer room and leaned over
while standing to pick it up off the floor, leaning to the left.  There was
no one living with me and you don't just leave a dead roach lieing in the
floor!  All three were in September.  It  just happens so fast that you
don't have time to do anything about it.  The last time was after I broke my
ankle and was wearing the high boot pulled tight over my leg.  My DIL had
put it on for me that night and I didn't feel it was tight enough so reached
down toward my foot while sitting in a chair, and I heard it pop and felt
it.  That was in February or March, this year.  It hurt less this time than
it had before, but I don't want it to happen again either way!  Do be very
careful.

Thanks, Gwen.  I have done all those things, too, without realizing that I
was playing with fire- I need to rethink how I'm going about my chores and
stuff.  I'll be more careful now.  Scary!

Leslie,

glad to hear you are doing fine. I can imagine you have cabin fever. I do
too because I can't go out in the heat.

I am sorry to hear about your hubby but I bet it does take down some of the
stress level.

That is great about your friend helping even though she has alot to deal
with too.

You take care and know you are being thought of.

Kiki and i have been emailing privately for quite some time. However,
I haven't heard from her either since June 28th. She was doing well
after the surgery, of course, chomping at the bit to be more active. I
sure hope she checks in soon, too.
