off to the IV

Well I am off to my second rituxan iv today - hopefully we can get it in all
the way today and not have to repeat this crap tomorrow.  I took 45 mg of
prednisone before bed as ordered last night.  guess what?? No sleep, bitchy
as hell!  My face loves 45 mg of prednisone - that doesn't help.  But it is
great for the junk reading.  Read 2 books and am 1/2 way through the Fiery
Cross by Gabaldon as well.  I get 100 ml of solumedrol by drip at 8:30 this
am and if the rituxan doesn't go in all the way today then we repeat this
tonight 45 and 100 tomorrow.

Jo - if this continues tomorrow tell your husband I am coming to visit you
tomorrow.  Will give a whole new meaning to dark chocolate eating, salt
craving, witchy woman!  He will love you all the more after that.  My
husband is very nicely treading lightly this morning.

On the move side we are getting there.  The house looks a mess on this side
but almost all the boxes are packed and most of the cupboards are empty.
The fridge is empty with the exception of what is needed until next monday
(which is very very little).  The housekeeper can clean that tomorrow as it
has to be stored in our garage until the new house.  Upstairs bathroom and
closets are emptied and Pat just has to empty 2 bookcases and his office.
My sewing room has one more box to pack but i am still quilting.  The rental
house has the dishes unpacked into the cupboards, fridge loaded and the
clothes in the closet (oh and most of the sewing room has started to be
unpacked.  Getting there!)

So all is sort of well.  Wish me luck today.  Might not be able to post
today but by tomorrow night should be okay.

Yes,,  and I hope her family has just as good sense of humor.   45 mg of
pred at night time is kind of cruel,,,,, maybe at early afternoon would of
been better for her sleep.

It wouldn't.  Best you can hope for is to take it right at bedtime and hope
to get to sleep and get in a few hours before it kicks in.

I talked steady until 10 this morning; well maybe until 12:30.  I don't need
to take extra tonight which is good.  It had to be evening so it was in my
blood stream for this morning Harvey but yes I had 2 hours sleep (not in a
row), read a couple of books etc.

Of course it did not go entirely smoothly (if it had why would we have
nurses that of course need that adrenoline rush.  I had the same reaction at
37.5 ml as I did last time but this time I knew it was coming so we only
needed the benedryl in the iv and not the epi.  So that was good.  Stopped
the med for an hour until it was all over and then started again at 1/2 the
first dose.  So I go back tomorrow, get my 100 mg iv solumedrol and we start
again at 9:00.  We finished at 4:00 which was good.

Of to bed.  I am absolutely exhausted.  Still have to tape up my iv port
with a glove so I can sleep with it.

Take care everyone.  thanks for the wishes.

That's okay Jo.  It actually went great in a way - the damn med went in and
that was the object of the game.  The incident wasn't as bad as last time
and we could continue (partially because I could know this time exactly what
the pattern was and we could stop and restart the infusion.  I never did get
to the no breathing stage which was great!!)
Of course I do have to go back today again which is a pill but we know the
speed (dead low) and we will therefore get all this in one way or another.
Then we wait for the darn stuff to hopefully work.

So it was positive jo and darn it I am still here which after the first time
seems like a little miracle.  I don't mind saying I was a little scared last
infusion.

Anyhow don't think I told anyone about the presents for the infusion staff
and my doctor.  I bought an Australian winie for all 4 called "Kelly's
Revenge" and wrote thank you cards for each of them and tied them to the
bottles.  The cards basically thanked them for going the extra mile last
time and every time they have looked after me.  The extra hours, the extra
precautions that they might not have always made for a person they knew
didn't have all these weird side effects.  I thanked them also for doing
everything  in helping me get "revenge on my
RA" (A play on the wine's name).  Told my rd that it was a cheap wine
compared to the one I gave him when my arava sort of worked but he said
actually it was a great wine growing area in Australia and he could hardly
wait to try it out.  He is so great.

Anyhow off to get changed.  Slept all night - don't think I moved.

Hi Kelly,,,,   I have one more thing to say about taking 45mg of pred. right
before bed and you can ask your doctor about it if you want to.   It will
eat a hole in your stomach taken by itself before you lay down.    It is the
same way with taking Naprosyn or Aspirin before you lay down.   It is far
better for the person for these things to be taken with food just a little
earlier maybe an hour before a person lays down for a nights sleep.

I know you are glad that the first round is over and its on to what
comes next.  Saying a little prayer just for Kelly of ASA that all goes
well.

I did that Harvey.  I also take prevacid at night and in the morning and
never take my meds and lie down right away - I also eat a bit of food with
it - usually crackers or something light.

thanks - the first round is done.  Picture perfect today.  Now we just wait
until month 4 to see if it worked.  Fingers crossed.

Kelly, I hope all goes well today, no set-backs at all. I read
part of your message to Jim, about the Prednisone, and he thinks
someone should start a support group for husbands whose wives are
on steroids. :-)

Oh I hope it goes well for you today.  I know exactly how you feel.  And you
know better than to act out, but the least little thing and you really just
can't help it.

(PS Come ahead.  I'm only on 2mg a day and the floors could use a good
cleaning.)

I hope all went well For you Kelly. I hope you were able to get it all done
in one day.

Man you must be a speed reader or they were small books. ;-)

LOL about telling Jim that. Glad your hubby is treading nicely.

Sounds like the packing and moving is going well. That is good.

I have been wishing you luck and praying for you.

You take care and let us know how you are doing as soon as you can.

I feel your pain. I had to take large doses of a pred-like steroid for my
first two chemos and stayed awake all night the first night, then took it
early in the evening for the second one and was able to get some sleep about
2 AM for the second. Then the oncologist decided I was responding so well I
don't have to take it anymore. They still give me a hefty dose in the IV
with the chemo, but I am over it by bedtime.

Hang in there, Hon, and good luck with the rituxan.

Thank goodness DeeTee.  Goodness knows we must have enough of this stored
up.

Are you hanging in there?  I had to take my bracelet off yesterday but it
was in my bag.

Yes I'm hanging in there. The bone pain is pretty bad and it seems to be
24/7. There are times I can't sleep because of it, but that's what my
recliner's for. The Darvocet works sometimes, but not others. I have another
chemo on Friday so we'll see if it changes anything.

Oooh what would we do without our recliner's......  Mine has broken twice
and I have fixed it twice since.  I love my recliner every since I had
trouble with acid reflux.  It was the only place I could get a little sleep.
To be honest,,, I can't feel your pain and I am glad but that does not
mean that I will feel your pain in the future.   Good luck on Friday and
that's another thing that I do not have history on but maybe in the future.
Most assuredly  "hugs"   and a pat on the back with a kiss on the cheek.
You are one of my heroes and keep putting one foot infront of the other one
because it is what you do so well...  Do you know what I mean?

Thank you, Harv. I don't feel very heroic, though. I don't really have a
whole lot of choice in the matter.

I wish I had an answer for that DeeTee.  I know others that have complained
about that too and they don't have the arthritis with it as well.  wishing
you the best - maybe on Friday they will have an answer for you.

Gentle hugs and prayers that things get better fast.
