Hi Chief,
I was a regular on ASA, but haven't been there in a while. I wanted to pass
this on to other who may be on oral (tablets) methotrexate.
I switched in April to the pills because of difficulty getting injectable
from any local pharmacy. I don't usually tolerate the pills, but this time
my stomach did great...and there was a reason.
They were not methrotrexate -- they were nothing! By last week my lupus was
out of control and the pain was unbearable. I was taking ultracet all day
and oxycodone all night...with slight relief. My husband came home from
work last week (he is a doctor) and took me to my Rheumy.
I told him about taking the pills and he said that another patient had the
same thing happen with a decline in their condition. The pills were sent to
the Rx company and found to be fake. I got mine at the same pharmacy so I
am assuming they are same. I'm taking my pills to the docs office next time
I am there and he will forward them for me.
My rheumy gave me an injection in the office and a vial of MTX that he has
compounded at a pharmacy in South Carolina and I now get my MTX from his
office.
If anyone has noticed a change in your health lately and are taking
orals...you might want to mention to your rheumy.

We have to be so careful. Was it a normally reputable pharmacy? Or a
normally reputable drug company? She didn't mention a lot of details. Though
what she did mention is scary.

It is scary. The owner of the pharmacy I go to is now in prison. He
colluded with a doctor to take all the samples that the doctor received
from drug company representatives and add them to his own stock. These
were BP and cholesterol lowering medicine and some where long out of
date.
I still go to the same store because none of the three pharmacists were
involved and all were exonerated. The prior big chain pharmacy I used
had given me someone else's meds on two occassions so I won't go back to
them.
In many ways we are at their mercy.

Last week my pharmacy gave me 100mg pills instead of 300mg.
I opened the bottle, broke the safety seal, looked at them and thought,
"Those are mighty small."
Looked at the manufacturer's label - it said "100mg."
Looked at the Rx label - it said "300mg."

Yikes, now that is one scary scenario to think of happening in your own
backyard!!!
Thanks, Joe, for passing along this info.
I remember the last time Janet R posted she was having quite a difficult
time with her lupus and was dealing with some lung involvement from the
lupus.
I miss her posting here and wish she would rejoin us all.
