DeeTee and Bob Taggart - 26 May 2007 15:12 GMT The old-timers here will remember this game, but I thought the newbies should be given a chance for a new addiction. LOL

WARNING: This game becomes addictive. Witness the fact that after several years I am STILL playing it!

Jo
Diane - 28 May 2007 21:57 GMT lol, jo, i can't believe you remember that. back then, you needed to sign in with a password to play it .i made up a nonsense password. that i wouldn't be able to remember and gave it to my youngest stepdaughter to keep for me and told her never to let me have it. hours later, i begged and pleaded, but she wouldn't give it to me. now, though, it's everywhere, so the code is useless. and said stepdaughter has bigger fish to fry--she just announced she's pregnant! another grandbaby on the way.

Just spent 2 hours playing bubbles. So here the thing-I used to always get 14-20 thousand playing this game. I could not get higher than 7000 . Just wasn't seeing those little paths. I sure hope this just means I am ehausted and not losing my bubbles <G>

I can't imagine getting 100,000 but now that i know you do, I will probably push until I can. I hope not. I need to put this thing down. I spent two hours last night playing bubble <g>

In another group we have become impatient. Now we play and compete for low score. That has to be after all bubbles and cleared and the score is doubled. Quiting mid game is not only allowed but encouraged.
I think our record is around 16,000, but anything short of 20,000 is pretty amazing and anounced and added to our list of winners.
(Cat group)
So far we haven't found anyone with the language skills to translate the instructions so figure we can define winning any way we want.

I am trying to pack, get over treatment, feel better etc. This was way too addictive the first time around - why do you tease me? Rose is trying to finish the school year, Donna is practising to get her driver's licence, SJ is writing cards, M is looking after herself!(I hope), several such as Kiki and Joe are getting ready for surgery, I have orders for quilts and table runners to be done too in my spare time. (How did something that was a hobby happen to consume me.) You are suppose to keeping yourself well to get through chemo etc - is this a healthy sideline??? Shouldn't you be sleeping or something - you know like polishing your toe nails or consuming vitamins or you know....bugging your hubby maybe? Sheesh! I miss a few emails and look who stirs up trouble.
You are a trouble maker - ban her from the group guys! What an evil crone laugh!
Says Kelly who is going to sign on to the bubbels again!

I have a house to sell, a course to work on, a summer institute to organize, a class to maintain some semblance of discipline for, reports to write, laundry to do, toe nails to paint. I can not do bubbles!
Ha ha. Well, I may try just one game. I am experiencing a little insomnia...

Kelly - 29 May 2007 15:50 GMT Just step up behind me Rose - it is a virtual support group for recovering buliophiles - you don't even have to read messages - just virtually process the information.
How is the house stuff going - have you had to start cleaning etc? What did the real estate agent say? Thank goodness school is starting to wind down in a way - of course the end of the year stuff always spirals up.
Am thinking of you.

I am seriously over bubbles. Yesterday dawns pain free and is the first day i can walk in 13 days. I am excited. It is a beautiful day. I meet Susan for coffee and we decide to have dinner at her house. great. I make the asparagus and an apple blueberry pie. I go shopping and come back to my tiny house and make pie crust. Dinner is at 7:00. I have the crust ready by 4:30. Perfect. So I am a little tired as I haven't walked for days. i sit down and play bubbles. Suddenly it is 5:45. I throw this pie thing together and put it in the over and steam the asparagus. I sit down and play bubbles. Woops- I smell asparagus (which means there is a problem0. I jump up and grab asparagus and blanch it in ice water. It is acceptable but not perfect. Pie isn't even close to being finished. I call Susan and tell her I'll be late. I AM NEVER LATE ANYWHERE EVER. I arrive with a pie that has to finish baking at Susan's house, chilled asparagus with asaiago that is a little too done. Hum... I NEVER OVERCOOK ASPARAGUS. I NEVER UNDER COOK PIE. I NEVER AM LATE.
Great dinner. I come home about 10:00. I then play bubble, unable to score over 50,000. It somehow become 2:00 AM.
I am so over it. no more bubble. I overcooked asparagus and under baked a pie. That is as bad as waking up in the gutter or spending my kids college money for an addiction.
I OVERCOOKED THE ASPARAGUS. I'm finished-no more bubbles-I mean it this time. I kicked once-i can do it again-i can do it again-I can do it again
jofirey - 29 May 2007 20:15 GMT >> Just step up behind me Rose - it is a virtual support group for >> recovering [quoted text clipped - 29 lines] > this time. Although properly cooked asparagus is lots better. Its so good this time of year. And the pie sounds good.
I made a fresh cherry cobbler yesterday. Our cherry tree is just covered. We have a cool little cherry pitting machine that actually works. Pitted out a couple of quarts in maybe ten minutes.
Wish I knew someone who would come and pick some cherries and take them away. even the birds and the neighbors can't keep up.
Maybe I'll get Charlie to bring in enough for me to make and freeze some juice.
I've given up on efforts to make Cherry Jelly. I only sets about one time in ten tries.

Diane - 29 May 2007 22:30 GMT an apple blueberry pie! oh, that sounds lovely. so have you played bubbels yet today, m?
jo, how on earth does one get a low score and still win? the lowest i've gotten is 75000, and did i mention i'm on deadline??
also, i can't send new posts to the group. i don't know what's wrong, but something is screwy with my google group reader. is there any other way to read this group these days?

[quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > > diane If you completely clear the screen, your score doubles and the game is over. Quite honestly I find it hard to manage much under 30,000 in a single game out of several days play. I did get very close to 20,000 once. And since that is my goal, I tend to restart if I'm close to 10,000 and it doesn't look like miracles are about to happen.
The hardest part for me is remembering there is no time factor in the game. You really can take your own sweet time and plan each shot.
And getting rid of colors is more important than getting rid of lots of bubbels.
A friend in Australia did a detailed analysis of the game, using a camera to record each step. You think we don't have the time to waste, she has a two year old and a more than full time job.
Pay attention to which direction the bubbels move when the screen drops down etc.
Jo
Nann Bell - 31 May 2007 14:00 GMT I'd drifted away from playing bubbels due to color issues on our Mac (and the nearest repair place is 120 miles away!). All this discussion reminded me that we have a PC as well now and there are actually some periods of time when Mike isn't tying it up playing Strategic Command. Luckily it's set up more for a 6'2" person than for 5'5" me and I can't stand to play for more than a couple of hours.......

Of course anyone in my books that makes a pie .... well pretty special. And I bet that asparagus wasn't that bad (you could have used my trick and blended it and called it soup. Done that before M.).
So how many times have you played it today M? I don't think cold turkey is good for the soul.

(or at least gave up the brains to create timers!) I use them for everything to spare my mind of cluttering details that obfuscate more fun stuff! And I either grill or stir-fry asparagus - it requires closer attention so you can't wander off and play games! LOL

RoseB - 30 May 2007 14:32 GMT My house has been on the market for two weeks now. Nothing too much is happening-only two sets of people have been through. The first thought it was too small. I did not hear about the others- they were just here yesterday. I have found a house next door to the one I initially liked. Someone outbid me on it, and the owners took their offer right away. This house is nice, even though it has a rather old fashioned carptet throughout.
I am busy with my new course work and the school stuff. The students have been quite antsy lately and I am finding that a little stressful. Even though this is a good class (comparatively) they can be a little chatty. The next month will go fast though I am sure.
I just wish something would happen on the housing front. My cat wants to go out and he is restless. I would like to be where I could go out without someone swoooping on me (mmy definition of what takes placae).
