Before you have your hip replacement, there is a site that focuses
totally on hip replacements (I think it is Gwen who has the info for the
site). You might want to check it out and get some feedback from there
as well.
also, concerning the pain meds, or lack there of, can your pcp (primary
care physician) cover you with some adequate pain meds if the surgeon
isn't willing? Or, maybe ask the surgeon to refer you to a pain clinic
to work with you on all of this.

That site is http://www.totallyhip.org It helped me a lot before my hip
replacement..
