Hi everyone. Not a frequent visitor here but, I know someone whose neck is
immobile due to Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). He wants to find a
mirror/mirrors for his car to help him view things/cars around him better.
Any suggestions of where something like this could be found/purchased?
Thanks in advance. Take care.
yup - but they're not pretty
first understand the 'normal' position is just forward and to the
outside of the 'torso' - thus one has to be able to turn 'somewhat' to
have a clear view in the two mirrors outside the car's 'cabin'.
and the 'inside' mirror is sized under the similar theory that one can
lightly bend the neck
so....
outside:
mirrors have to be moved 'forward' onto the left and right panels over
the wheel wells. these are usually the type you see on pickup trucks and
so on. big, large mount, ugly. if you are old enough, you will remember
them on several european cars from the 50's and early 60's. for the
inside mirror, they do make a 'wider' one that affixes onto the current
mirror and gives a more panoramic rear-view
now the big 'but':
you will have to check with state and local rules about this type of
alteration. i have read of a few jurisdictions that don't allow for this
radical of a change without first going in and having it checked against
local code...
and it isn't going to be cheap to have this done correctly
you don't want some idjit just drilling a couple holes in the car body
and having it rust out in a year or so...

Frogs,
There is an after-market rear-view mirror which mounts inside your
car, up near the upper edge of the car's windshield. This "Wink
Mirror," as it is called, can be found at your local auto parts store,
and is not particularly expensive. It is an assembly of several
mirror sections which are mounted at different angles into a single
plastic frame, which in turn can be adjusted to fit your personal
hieght, as you are seated behind the steering wheel.
The Wink Mirror allows you to see behind your car and to some degree
alongside your car, right and left, without your having to rotate your
head.
Hope this helps, please let us know.......

Sorry people! I have to watch two places for my posts because... I had my
email/newsgroup sorted backwards of when sent/received from how I normally
do and thought this one didn't get sent -- that's why I'd posted basically
the same question twice! :) Tired I guess!
Thought about the auto parts store but wasn't sure how to ask/explain. I'll
have to check it out having a name now.
Too, this sounds a lot like this mirror we saw when googled, which is what
he'd been thinking of getting.

I looked at that page and my first thought was "What's wrong with that
photo?"
It's a fake.
"SCHOOL BUS" should be reversed in the mirror.
... A bird in hand means you'd better have lots of soap.

I think I lost the message I just sent -- I'll try this again!
And... sorry newsgroup about posting basically the same question twice! --
I'd had my email/newsgroups sent/received sorted backwards from the way I
normally have it and thought this question didn't go through. Tired I
guess!
Thought about the auto parts store but hadn't stopped by yet mainly due to
not knowing how to ask/describe. Will check out now having a name to try.
Sort of seems like this mirror we'd seen when googling that he's
considering trying http://www.multiflexmirror.com/
Thanks!

Frogs,
That Multiflex mirror is similar in concept to the Wink mirror, the
Wink mirror goes all the way across the top of the windshield, with
several mirror panels mounted at several different angles, to offer
you several different angles of viewing coverage, simultaneously.
Let us know what you end up installing in your car!
