DeeTee and Bob Taggart - 12 May 2007 17:40 GMT
Yesterday I thought I would be losing my hair soon because my scalp was
very, very tender. Then, last night, ran my fingers through my hair and came
away with a handful of hair. After about 30 minutes, I had removed nearly a
third of my hair. I looked very odd. Today I went and got the rest buzzed
off. So I am hairless until after chemo. However, since the DH gets a little
teary eyed when he looks at me, I will probably go ahead and get a wig.
Can't have him upset for four more months! So I will post another picture
when my wig has been purchased.

Hey Dee Tee, you and I almost look like twins. I have a tad more hair on my
head, it has been almost a month since Jim messed up when cutting mine. But
we could be sisters.

I feel for your hubby. I know it must get to him knowing why you have to
have no hair.

So I am sending thoughts for the both of you.

I think you look good the way you are but if it would make him feel better
about the wig, then go for it. Hey at least you can always get a hair color
you always wanted. ;-)

You are such a strong and loving woman. I really admire you. I see you are
wearing your bracelet. I have mine on my desk. I have trouble getting it
over my hand. But it is with me at least.

You take care and hang in there. You really look good for someone that is
going thru chemo, you wouldn't know you are doing it. ;-)

hi dee tee,

i think that was a good idea.  saves you going through more emotional
trama.  have you thought about the head things they wear.  i think
they are so pretty.

my daughter was three when she was dx with cancer (shes now 29) it was
very hard to see her hair come out little by little until she had
none.  she now has pretty blonde hair.  you might get a different kind
of hair when it grows back in.  that will be something to look forward
to.

you remain in my thoughts

My sister's hair grew back in curly. Her hair is very fine so as it
got longer, the curl came out somewhat. She keeps her hair long still.

Rose,

A friend of mine who had been through chemo also had hair that came back
very curly.  It was so cute the way it came back so full of curls!

You look beautiful DeeTee. Your eyes have not lost their sparkle. When
my sister was going through chemo, the same thing happened. The hair
started to fall, and rather than lose it in odd locations and have to
be constantly picking up hair, they just shaved it off and saved a lot
of bother.
Recently a program aired on Caadian tv detailing the experiences of
Dr. Marla Shapiro in her fight against breast cancer. One of the
things that she mentioned was that she did wear a wig, not so much for
herself as for those around her. While it did not bother her that much
to be hairless, it was a reminder to her loved ones of what she was
going through. Perhaps that is a similar emotion to what you are
feeling. Some info on Dr. Shapiro:

Another quick story about my quilting friend Lee.  Our group meets every
Monday.  One day Lee comes into my house on Monday morning, whips off her
coat and wig and says good morning to everyone.  She all of a sudden went
whoops!  She said it was the first time outside her house she had taken her
hat or wig off.  She realized that she had automatically treated the group
as her family and how wonderful it felt to feel so at home and so accepted -
none of us noticed - all we knew was it was Lee - her smile and herself.

So feel free to be you around here - we are like home.

You look just fine and DH will get used to it after a while.  It's the
initial shock that got to him.  My friend Marie also said that she wore
a wig because of other people and never wore it around the house.  She
put it on like a hat when she went out.  My next door neighbor didn't
wear a wig at all although her sister had insisted on buying one for
her.  She wore an adorable hat when she went out to the store or to a
restaurant.  Do whatever feels comfortable to you right now.

Hi DeeTee,

I get the feeling that Bob may be bothered less by the loss of your hair
than by his feeling helpless. I went through the same thing with Sarah's
two cancers.

Sending Good Thoughts,

Go for the wig. Get a nice one. In fact, get one with the kind of hair
you've always wanted. I have curly hair and if I had to buy a wig, I'd
get one like Cher, LOL! Long and straight that didn't frizz or curl in
the humidity :)))  And get some nice floppy hats. I had a secretary once
who was going through chemo and she had this really cool hat that she
could wear when she didn't want to wear the wig or if it was too warm :)

Can't wait to see your new photo :)

BIG HUGS,
Carole :)

DeeTee, you have a great head for being bald!:)

Seriously, some people have all kinds of weird lumps and dimples. Yours
looks great!

Smooches for you and Bob. I'm sure this is all very hard for both of you,
but you have each other to hold onto through the rough spots. And, you've
always got us, too.

Hugs,
Kelly C.

DeeTee,
Just keep thinking how wonderful it will look when it comes back in.  All my
friends who have been through cancer have had wonderful easy care, curly
incredible colour hair come back in.  Lee (my good quilting friend) has said
she tried for years to describe to her hairdresser what her ideal hair would
be if she were to dream.  Well her dream came true and now she is just
hoping it stays that way for a bit before she turns grey (she just turned 60
so figures it is going to happen sooner or later.)

So just tell DH to help you by massaging the back of your neck and to hold
you when he feels teary eyed.  I know he must be hurting so badly right now
and probably feels quite hopeless (despite the fact that I am sure he is
helping any way he feels he can).  Hopefully he has someone other than you
to talk to.

Gentle hugs DeeTee - hang onto that attitude.  It will get you so far!

DeeTee, Kelly C mentioned what a beautifully shaped head you have..I have to
agree...
Then I thought of my own head...Well I have had brain surgery...so part of
my head is lumpy and deformed looking from that...I can't even imagine How
Ugly that would be...I fear I would look alot like Frankenstien...LOL

As some one else said....The sparkle in your eye is still there...
And I want to add....That beautiful smile...I hope you keep that smile there
through all of this...
Your sense of humor will go along way...

As far as wig and Hat...My cousin opted for wearing hats and head coverings
and she had one that made her eyes shine and brought out her beautiful baby
blues...

With many hugs and millions of prayers..

hey, bbb (beautiful bald babe)!   give bob a hug and get the wig, only if
you really want to.  it's not your hair loss that's getting to him, hon.
it's his knowing what you are going through.  hair or no hair, he'd still be
teary-eyed.  bless him for caring so much about you and loving you so well.

by the way, bbb, you look ten times better than i did when i was bald.
you've got a great shaped head for it.  my head shape is kinda wonky.  and
you still look like deetee, when i looked like somebody nobody recognized.

gee, kate, and I always thought it was just your brain that's wonky!  (sorry,
I couldn't resist teasing a bit - besides, I've always gravitated towards the
"wonky-brained" folks!)

If I looked that good without hair, I'd shave my head tonight. Hair is way
overrated.

Ok, lady, it just isn't fair to the rest of us for you to look so good
without hair!  lol

Bob will probably get used to the emotional overload of you hairless, but you
might still want a wig for some of the other folks in your life who haven't
adjusted to it all.  Or, now that it's really warming up, it might be time
for a large, well-ventilated straw hat!

sending you healing prayers and big, happy hugs all the time.....
