Well, finally got my double ear infections cleared up after 3 weeks of
antibiotics and such.

Will go in next friday, the 18th, to have new ear tubes, made out of
titanium put in and they will also repair the ruptured ear drum so that
I can hear again out of that ear.

I can't believe they actually make titanium ear tubes!   Wow---do they
make everything out of titanium these days???

He wants to go this route as the last set of tubes that he placed in
september, were supposed to be long lasting ear tubes and they were both
out by the first of the year. He said my ears seem to reject every type
of material he uses and he is praying that the titanium tubes will last
longer than 3-4 months.  He really thought the last set would last me at
least a year!  Wrong!!!

Problem is, once the tubes come out, I get repeated ear infections that
just don't clear up anymore with one round of antibiotics.  Even with
the stronger antibiotics, and not the last two times, I have gotten
ruptured ear drums which don't seem to want to close up on their own.

Anyways, I am just shocked that they actually make titanium ear tubes.
I know they make titanium hip replacement parts, but wow, ear tubes?
What will they come up with next???

ANGELS EXIST, but some times, since they don't all have wings, we call
them FRIENDS......

Dear Donna,

(((((((((((donna))))))))))

My boys when they were little went thru eartubes 3-4 times.  (two
boys, one had 3 pairs, one had 4 pairs)  This is the only way they
recovered from an infection as well.  I do know that they keep using
harder materials until they get it right.  So while they nevered used
titanium that doesn't surprise me.

I"m sending love and prayers.  And hoping that you soon feel much
better.

Don't know anything about ear tubes, but titanium sounds strong. Good luck,
Hon.

A dentist I went to wanted to put titanium implants in my mouth to take the
place of dentures I've worn since 1981. My insurance wouldn't go for it,
though. What was hilarious about him is he sounded and acted just like
Martin Short's wedding planner in "Father of the Bride". LOL

Donna, you're in my prayers as well. I hope your body decides to keep the
implants.

I get the impression that titanium is pretty easy to work with, accepted by
the body, and has properties that are sometimes compatible with newer MRI's
etc.  Charlie has a heel full of it and I've got a chunk in the side of my
head.

I wouldn't think the material would affect how soon the ear tubes fall out
though.

Jo,

It might effect the way the tubes fall out.  The ENT thinks that the
reason all the other sets of tubes have fallen out so much earlier than
they should, is because for some reason my body is reacting to that
foreign material and expelling the tubes long before they would normally
come out.

My father in law has a mouth full of titanium pegs holding his teeth in
place.  Fortune worth - more money than believable but worth it to him.
Let's hope these work properly.
