Aha, you are at that age.  Everyone you know is hauling baby stuff around,
and talking babies, etc.  And then they all start looking at you, and maybe
not asking when you are going to get with the program, but you feel a bit
pressured anyway.  But there is still loads of time to decide what and when
is right for you.

I was shocked a few nights at the number of strollers at the little league
game.  It seemed like everyone was either burping an infant or steadying a
toddler on it feet.  The nine year old pitcher on our team (my grandson) has
been at the little league park every season since before he was born.  So
has the girl who was pitching for the other team.  They used to play in the
dirt together when they were little.  Time flies.

That happens with new parents.  I'm glad we got pictures from my nephew

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

When you say that you're a 'chief', you mean that you're a 'chief' of
a volunteer department, right?  There was no extensive testing or
education requirements to become a 'chief' for you, right?

In professional Fire Departments becoming a 'chief' usually entails a
College degree and a few thousand hours of experience. In my
department it requires a minimum of 1500 fire reports, plus 10 years
as a Lieutenant and another 5 as Captain. Just curious as to your
credentials...  How many years as an officer and how many fire calls
have you been in charge of?

No,,, he is a real fireman but only at heart now.   After many, many years
in the fire department, he was forced to retire due to AS.   His collection
of fire patches is almost famous from nearly all the states and I wonder how
many different countries.   Are you a fireman too, HJA?

Just retired after 26 years.   I'm still kind of curious though, I've
never run into a professional firefighter that collected patches.
That's usually the kind of thing that volunteers go for.

Well, which is it then?  Is he a professional firefighter or a
volunteer?
That's where this entire discusion began, after all..  Crossposted to
a firefighters group.....

Volunteering to help your 'fellowman' is a good thing.   Volunteering
to play fireman usually ends up as stealing jobs from people.  Add to
that the undeniable fact that volunteer firefighters just happen to be
the most prolific firesetters in the world, and the number one causes
of fire related deaths  and....well the facts on the matter are easily
googled by anyone who cares....
Carole - 11 May 2007 21:41 GMT

Many communities only have volunteer firefighters. I grew up on Long
Island and in Suffolk County there were no paid firefighters. They were
all volunteers. And they went through a LOT of training.

That is the most awful generalization.

I know a LOT of volunteer firefighters who leave their beds in the
middle of the night to go fight fires. Many times they are just getting
back home when they have to get up for work, and have to go to their
jobs on only a couple hours of sleep. In their communities, they are not
stealing jobs as there is no such thing as a paid firefighter.

But, unfortunately it happens to be truthful...

Just  google up 'volunteer firefighters and arson'  and get back to
me, OK?

Really?    There is no such  thing as a paid firefighter?  Goodness, I
need to give a few million dollars back to my City, pardon me, I'll be
right back...

I'm back now, turns out you're an idiot...   My gawd, you;ve certainly
done your best to tell all the FDNY members at ground zero that they
didn't exist, haven't you?

Most of the volunteers you're talking about would run out at a hearts
beat to light up your own house...  Just for the simple thrill of
showing up while it was burning...

Do a little google search, OK?  Enter 'volunteer firefighter arson."

Get back to us after that, OK???
Squirrely - 11 May 2007 23:48 GMT
Carole is far from being an idiot.

just because some may have did that doesn't mean all do.
So who is the idiot. Dah

So does that make every politician bad because some are.

Does that make every actor a drunk driver because some are.

Man, dream on.

The volunteer firemen I knew almost lost their lives for people, I am sure
they would sit the fire and then run in to save people. We had a family that
all but the father died in there and alot of those firemen went to the
hospital because they kept trying to get to them.

Just because a few are bad does not make them all bad.

Besides that I just heard on the news the other night that there were a few
paid firemen that are being charged with arson. So then that must have made
you an arson person too. If we are going to classify all volunteers to be
then we might as well classify all paid firemen to be too. Right in your way
of thinking anyways.

I'm guessing you are.   Statistics have proven for years that
volunteer firefighters are the biggest firesetters in the world.
Google it up and see for yourself....

Were they very fat by any chance?   Those tend to be the firefighters
that get hurt so easily, the fat out of shape people.   In real
departments you have to take physical agility tests a few times a year
to keep your job.   Did they have to meet fitness standards?   The
ones that do rarely get hurt on the job, I'm just curious...

Your story is really sad, 3 or 4 professional guys probably would have
gotten them all out alive,,,It's so sad that our society allows people
with no experience or skills to play fireman, one of the most serious
jobs out there...

Got a link for that?   Didn't think so..   : -}

Professional firefighters setting fires is almost unheard of...In the
volunteer community it's a way of life.....

Just provide a link to verify your claim about professional
firefighters setting fires and we'll go from there, OK?
Squirrely - 12 May 2007 16:36 GMT
Yeah I did do some googling and by the way I won't be responding, because I
can see what a trouble maker you are. So many of your messages are nothing
but putting people down.  Thanks for reminding me to google. Backfired on
you though. So you won't get any more comments from me.

You are so full of it when you are talking about voluteer firemen. That is
what the firemen were until someone decided that they needed to be paid for
it and make a career out of it instead of doing it for saving peoples lives.
Now you do it for the money.

OK   Howard,,,, You have shown us that you can use your computer to search
Google.   To me,,,, that means you are also smart enough to see that you are
posting in a support group for arthritis.
Let me be the first to thank you for adding stress to the lives of people
that post here all the time.   Again to me,  that makes you a callous, mean
spirited person that has not adjusted to being retired.
There are crazy people in every line of work.   The news proves that

you do.  If I were to choose which of you would be more likely to go set a

Indeed, thanks to Chiefy for crossposting to 13 different groups.   If
you have a problem with it, perhaps you should discuss it with him?

But, you obviously can't spell.....

Chief earned his

That's speculative.  Did he actually retire from a paid, professional
fire department?
It doesn't seem to be so.  All he needs to do is provide his unions
local number, and it can be easily verified.   Until then, he's just a
liar..  end of story....

If you, by chance had actually fought in a war, would you like when
people that hadn't posted about what it was like?

Chiefy is lying and insulting every firefighter in America by
pretending to be one.  He's not and never has been the professional
firefighter he's claiming to be.

He can post proof here, and I'll be happy to acknowledge it and make
my amends....  Until then, he's a lying pile of sh.t and so is
everyone supporting him....

To howard_aubrey@gmail.com,

I believe YOU are just another liar story yourself as well as quite the
irritating troll.

Why don't you be a good little liar troll and crawl back from where you
came from.

Sheesh, if you were truly a professional, as Chief IS, then you would be
a much more compassionate and concerned individual, rather than a bigot
who does nothing but bash others!!!

Maligning others with your prejudices and bigotry gets you no where
here.   Just raises more questions as to your real reason to knock
others.

Most bullies, like yourself, bully others because they are trying to
hide that which makes them so insecure!

Sorry you obviously have HUGE amounts of insecurities.

Chiefy crossposted to some firefighters groups that he is, in fact, a
retired Fire Chief from a 'Big City Career Fire Department'.   I find
his claim to be most likely a  lie.  He can easily prove it, but he
has chosen not to, which only supports my feelings on the matter.

There can certainly be no one alive with more insecurities than a
person who claims to be something he actually isn't.  I can prove my
record as a career firefighter, Chiefy needs to do so himself....
It's up to him, if he really was a proud professional firefighter he
should have nothing to hide.  If not, he's a sad, pathetic liar
wannabe...  Defending such a person is a gross insult to all the
firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty,
particularly on 9/11.

Was he ever an actual paid professional firefighter as he's claimed?
I doubt it, and if not he's certainly insulting the actual persons who
were.

It's truly pathetic that someone would lie about such a thing and even
worse that people would come to his defense.  If he's telling the
truth my hat goes off to him, if not he's a pile of sh.t and a
disgrace to the memories of all the true firefighters in the world.

Don't blame you Gwen, that is what I did after I posted the last post to
this thread. After reading what he has been saying on other groups too, I
figured I could spend my time more wisely on support instead of trying to
explain something to someone that isn't going to have a clue.

Do you really think at this point anyone here give a fig what your feeling

Most of us know and love Joe.  This is an arthritis support group.  He has
no need what so ever to defend himself here.  Or anywhere else for that

Indeed, every professional firefighter in the Country, no doubt...

Ya know any??

Hmm, maybe not here in an arthritis support group, but certainly in
the firefighter groups he felt the need to crosspost to.

No one is denying him the right to post anything, but if he wants to
tell people he is a former career firefighter that has retired, it
only stands to reason that he should be willing to verify it.  Unless
he happens to be ashamed of it, that is. I can't think of any reason
for that, can you?

He has claimed to be a retired career firefighter, we just want him to
verify it, OK?
Lying about career affiliations is a felony, in case you didn't

Indeed.   Firefighters are a proud lot.  We'd like to know if Chiefy
is really retired from a big city career FD as he 's claimed.
Shouldn't be hard to prove....

Do you hate firefighters????  If not, we would sure like to know why
you have such an affinity for protecting people who malign them?  I'm

ANY true firefighter would be horrified to associate themselves with a
lying spamming, stalker, like the likes of you!

You bring dishoner to all who associate with you and your severe mental
health issues.

If you were truly who you say you are, you wouldn't be so hell bent on
stalking and harassing and flooding support groups with your harassment
and stalking.

You are one very seriously dangerous person and no one in any group
should disclose any information to you---you are far too dangerous and
far to mentally insecure.

A TRUE firefighter, like Chief, is someone who wishes to help others,
who is compassionate and caring about their fellow human being.   You
come no where close to fitting that description.  Instead, you are one
that should be reported to the aurthorities and a very seriously
deranged individual who  has strongly exhibited stalking tendencies,
harassment, and quite a bit of paranoia as well.

Not likely.   More like REAL firefighters would be interested in why
Chiefy is so insecure he has to pretend to be one of them...
Committing a felony to try and act important, that's just sooo sad...

He's claimed to be retired from a big city career fire department, he
just needs to provide the name and I'll be more than happy to go
away...

I guess this group supports liars and wannabes..   Very sad that
people feel the need to lie about themself to look important, I
thought that usually ended by the third grade.   Guess I was wrong and
should have searched here...

I guess Chiefy always wanted to be a real firefighter and failed and
came here to play pretend fireman.   Found some stupid people he could
fool...He must live a truly pitiful life....

Don't have to deal with it as it isn't my problem!

You CLAIM that Chief has said these things yet there isn't any proof.
Makes no difference anyways as Chief is wise to avoid a psychopath such
as yourself.

Any professional, whether it be police, fire, etc would not want to be
associated with the likes of a dangerous stalker as yourself.   They
would lock up a psychotic person such as yourself.   You are far far too
dangerous to be in the general population!

No matter, you have been reported to your ISP's as well as to the
authorities as being a stalker who is harassing others as well as quite
possibly a most dangerous person that needs to be looked into and taken
off the streets before you seriously hurt or kill someone!   A very

Actually, you're quite ignorant about the subject at hand.  It's quite
wonderful that he knows something about arthritis, it really is, but
his knowledge about firefighting is questionable at best.  Dangerously
ignorant would be the most accurate assessment I can come up with in
small words you might actually be able to comprehend....The kind of
ignorance that leads to people dying in fires all the time....

He just needs to prove his claim that he is a retired 'Big City' Fire
Chief, OK?

It's really that easy.   He either was or he wasn't.  I'm guessing it
was the latter, but he can prove me wrong here...If not, I really
can't think of a worse lie other than claiming you were involved in a
military conflict, which happens to be a felony...

But lets give the guy a chance, OK?

Chief, what career FD did you retire from?  It really is an easy
question to answer, I'll go away after you do, OK?

Kiss your own a.s mister liar troll.

Why does it concern YOU so much?  Is it because you are one of the
pathetic attention seekers that you speak of?   I believe you are since
you have taken to flooding multiple news groups with multiple harassing
spam posts!

Spam is illegal you know and what you are doing is not only spam but
also gross harassment and stalking---also illegal.

We who actually know Chief know for a fact that he is who he claims.

If I were cheif I wouldn't give you the time of day either, since you
are clearly a person who has some very deep seated mental health issues
that need to be addressed by a professional.   Not the type of person to
disclose -any- information to as you very well might be and by your
actions appear to be a stalker and perhaps worse such as a killer for
the amount of energy you have put into pursuing a single person.   You
have now established yourself as someone that ALL need to be wary of and

News flash - those who died on 9/11 were only doing their jobs. They
knew what their job was when they signed on. And their lives, though
admittedly a great loss to their families, were no different from the
loss of firepersons who lose their lives every day in the line of
service. The only difference is that the families of those who lost
their lives on 9/11 were given large cash benefits. Those who lost their
lives in the days before and after in an ordinary house fire, got
nothing like it.

The cash payment for firefighters who died in the line of duty was

I think you've crossed the line now, maybe because you're reading things
that haven't been written in Harv's messages.  Plenty of full-time
firefighters also get in the news as firebugs.  You may have heard of
the Los Angeles County firefighter captain, arson investigator, who set
a string of commercial fires through central California a few years ago,
some resulting in deaths.

Even if I agree that amateurs set fires (more than professionals,
arguably) you seem to have made up your mind that Chief is an imposter
of some kind, or at least a non-professional.  All we have is your
unsupported word that you are not.  Where can we find your credentials
on record?

And how is Chief stealing jobs from anybody in your area, no matter what
his qualifications may be?

Maybe it's the pain of your arthritis at work here, not your basic
nature.  And if so you're in the right place; the group was formed for
mutual support (public safety employees understand that concept, don't
they?) for sufferers of arthritic diseases, not to argue over their
professional lives.

What an awful thing to say. In the small community in which I
grew up we only have volunteer firemen. They are extremely well
trained, have updates all the time, go to accidents as the
nearest ambulance is a good 20-30 minutes away, etc. etc. They
save lives. Never underestimate a volunteer. Volunteers are the
backbone of a nation.

I agree here with the others too. I used to work for the Ladies auxillary at
a fire department where all the firemen were voluteers. They did not get
paid anything for fighting these terrible fires. They did not get
compansated for having to go to the hospital for treatment, they did this
all out of the kindness of their hearts to save others lives. That was a
terrible thing to say.

You have no clue to how many voluteer firemen are out there not taking the
jobs of others but saving lives. Get it.

OK everyone.  Howard is just a PITA troll, who has already got far more time
and attention that he deserves.

Seems he does a daily google search of fire, just as someone else does a
daily search on i&on.

Lets let him go already

How many will that make? You know the best thing about grandkids
and other people's kids? You get to enjoy them, then if they get
cranky you send them home and you don't have to put them through
school, usually. I was a surrogate mum to a friend's two boys
when they were young, used to make cookies with them and do all
the fun stuff, but didn't have to pay the bills. As they got
older a classmate obligingly had three kids, twins and a single,
and not only did I get to look after the twins in NICU where I
was working at the time, but I got to share in their lives too.
Neat.

Enjoy the new grandchild.

Hi, Joan.
This will be number six.  Grandson number 4.   My oldest has three,
the next one has one, and my third & middle child will have two.  My
youngest two haven't started reproducing yet.  I do love being
grandma, and an eccentric one at that!  Gives me something to get up
for, but dang!  They seem to be in a hurry to grow up...
