Welcome, Sandy,
I'm also in the UK (halfway between Gloucester and Bath) and usually
lurk in this group. The UK group is uk.people.support.arthritis. It has
been very quiet, but seems to be undergoing a resurgence at the moment!

I don't know how you're fixed for money, but if you can afford it, and
have problems with your hands, then a voice input program could make
using your computer a lot easier. That's what I have to do. (I have OA
in my hands, unfortunately).
See you over in upsa, perhaps!
Cheers for now,
Dave

Hello Dave,
weren't you using some mac program voice recognition program? Is it
good enough that it would make sense to get a mac? (i might be totally
off on this and should probably check the archives so apologies if my
memory is faulty.) I still have never found a voice recog program
that worked well enough for me to use.
also weren't you considering knee replacement? can you update on how
that went?

Hello, Melinda,

Yes, I use a program called iListen. It works well enough that I can do
pretty well anything I need to do on my Mac (including writing this)
using it. Back in the days when I was working on somebody else's site,
and the only computer they would provide me with was a PC, I used to use
Dragon Naturally Speaking. That also worked pretty well, and has been
improved since I used it.
Remember that all these speech input programs need training. That
doesn't just mean the initial session where you read some fixed text so
it can get used to your voice. After that you need to work with it fall
some weeks so that you get used to the way it works as well as it
getting used to the way you work.

Yes, my doctor has recommended that I should have some surgery on my
knee. She's referred me to a specialist surgeon with whom I can discuss
all the details. I'm now waiting for the appointment to see him come
through. In our great National Health Service that could easily take
three to six months!
Cheers for now,
